Ghost story> vista modification pack haunting!

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Ghost story> vista modification pack haunting!

This is weird!!. (Gonna call the digital exorcist this afternoon (Dr. X.P. Disk)).

Its my old duron800 dell LAPTOP i havent used for a while and blew the cobwebs off it to install the 'look like vista' mod pack to see what all the fuss is about over the new style of gui(not THAT impressive is it? certainly no WOW here:/).

Anyway..

Now ive got VOICES! :O comming from my pc! its really spooky! theres no media playing, or programs running but i can definetly hear very quiet voices and very feint classical organ music. Its almost like whispers over the fan at full volume. It sounds like something from a horror film at 4am when everythhing is quiet.

It starts just at the end of the boot screen, i guess when the SC kicks in. Its obviously picking up radio waves from somewhere as it only happens in one part of the house.

Now, heres the really weird part!! I noticed it only after i changed my gui (could have been there b4 i guess :/ ) Could it be because the pc is working harder(hell yeah its slow now!) mabe things are occilating at a different frequency or something freaky? (probably just a mad coincidence. Why cant i beat those odds on the lottery instead? :(

Weird.

Be interesting to see if it goes away when i re-install windows :/

if not there will be an advert on ebay for a 'nice serviceable laptop, slightly possessed, suit student' :P

edit:
check it out:

Ive run an amp. filter on it so you can hear it. Normally its a barely audble whisper on top volume.

Its definitely a radio station, but whichever one it is needs to sack the presenters as he/they have a voice like satan himself and it doesnt change from that (except for some awful music that sounded like an accordian or fairground organ last night)

lol, funny,

I’ve never heard of anything like that happening before,

A possessed laptop might get a higher price on ebay :P

Um, that IS strange.

I noticed wierd ghost noises coming out of my PC last night, The GF thought it was raining until we noticed it was the PC output.

I have removed the Vista lookalike mod and instead stuck with a Vista theme instead of the transformation pack.

The noises persist.

This really is quite odd really, two of us now! :)

This sounds like a Vista 'WOW' moment. You are hereby requested to share this moment with Bill immediately ...

Other than that, be afraid:

Quality! I think a haunted PC could sell for a premium on Ebay. Get shot of the evil spirits and make a mint all in one transaction.

Can you record this sound, bump up the volume and let us listen to it?

I pick-up a local (I presume) taxi company on my Win/XP PC.

Actually thats not a bad idea. I'll record mine later :)

It's only electronic inteference but I too only noticed it after installing the Transformation pack! :)

Cool! but also annoying! :)

I want to listen too.

Puki,

It goes like this

"Shhhhhhhhcrackleshhhhhhhhh shhhh shhh shhhhh fizzshhhhh".

and I don't have any faulty Electrics :P it probably is just picking up a radio station or something! :)

We had an old set of computer speakers that used to do this - when they were powered on they used to pick up a radio signal and you could hear very faint music or voices :) Took bloody ages to figure it out.....

Here you go, (added to top post)

It doesnt sound that bad, but try sitting there for a few hours, in my head the voices turn ugly and start saying... KILL THEM ALL!!. KILL THEM ALL!!. KILL THEM ALL!!. KILL THEM ALL!! :P

You'd have thought a laptop would generate enough interference and be shielded enought to stop this.
I think its swedish but my swedish isnt that good, can anyone translate my voice from beyond the motherboard?

LOL

[edit]

Mine's funny- there are no voices but you can hear the sound of a vehicle or some such go past at the end :)

Ok i reinstalled XP(needed it anyway) but its much quieter so i never noticed it before. How is this possible, could it be the new media player boosting volume or something???

speakers do pick up certain frequencies; i.e. when you send a text message on your mobile phone, you'll sometimes hear the signal through your PC speakers/TV, or you can sometimes hear taxis etc.

The WAV in the first post sounds like he's speaking French, so probably a long wave radio station being picked up. Had it before years ago with some cheap crappy speakers with rubbish shielding. They picked up Radio Luxembourg. :/

Heh its a mystery. If its longwave it could be anywhere i guess, mediumwave it could be russian, norwegian suomi or danish.. icelandic mabe. Where i live it could only be swedish or suomi if its shortwave/uhf.

Its just odd that one config has it and one doesnt(or has but its too quiet to hear without recording and amplifying like 20x)

:/

I believe the source sound output from Vista is quieter than the source from XP, being that Vista mixes more channels - it could be your sound card drivers are telling the sc to amplify more to compensate.

My speakers started freaking out recently as well -- works great while the PC is on, but as soon as I shut down the computer they start giving a very loud sound that sounds a bit like a bass beat. Starts at 2 beats per second, and then over the course of a couple of minutes gets quieter and quieter and further apart before it goes away completely. If I turn off power to the speakers, wait a bit, and turn them back on it will still be making the weird noises.

Not sure what the deal is there.

Xlsoir, I had that too. It was my cheap speakers!

by the way, I sorted my problem- Brownie Points who can guess what caused it!!! :D

The microphone was on?

Loose connection?

was it a crystal radio that someone left inside the speaker ?

Aliens!

The microphone was on?

Nearly.

my sound card doesn't give out phantom power to my mic, which needs it.
However, someone plugged the MIC in and I am still recieving a VERY low signal!

i want my brownie point :P

This is to certify that Dan at D-Grafix dot com has at least 1 Brownie Point.!
