This just popped up in a routine Windows update.
Any point downloading it yet? Will it improve anything as far as NET2.0 apps are concerned? I've alread got 1.1 and 2.0 installed and don't fancy having more crap installed if I won't see any benefit from it.
They should have never called it 3.0 >_<
Its still the 2.0 runtime and compilers, with extra crap for vista related features.
It contains the "Windows Presentation Foundation" and some other new frameworks for .NET.
You know, this is Microsoft, and resistance is futile. On the long run, you will be needing it anyway when you want to use Windows and Microsoft applications, so you can also install it right away.
No need to install it yet. Unless a program makes use of the new features.
It adds the WinFX framework, wich is used to create some of the aereo glass style effects on .net applications. You don't need to install it unless you are planning to create this kind of stuff. In addition, it is backwards compatible with the .net 2.0 (you could even uninstall 2.0 before installing 3.0, but there are some stupidly bad configured msi files, that check for the existance of .net 2.0 as a install condition, instead of checking for 2.0 or greater).

Yeah they should. At least by doing this, they get the perception of backwards compatibility.
Actually it doesn't matter if you uninstall 2.0, because I tried and 3.0 just installs all the 2.0 stuff again anyway (minus patches).
