FL Studio 7 Released

Just incase any FL Studio users are not aware FL Studio 7 has been released.

Just out of curiosity which package did you guys buy originally? Personally I got the Producer version but see that there is now a XXL package.

Does anyone recommend upgrading who owns the XXL one?

I got the FruityLoops edition originally and I've been meaning to upgrade to producer for yonks. And now they go and dangle this in front of us. Interested in feedback also.

Is FL Studio 7 better than Orion Platinum 7?

Orion was slow compared to Fruityloops from a very early age- I don't know if thats still the case.

Ooooh... I'm very tempted to buy FL7. I'm hesitating because I've only ever really created "tracker" music before. The whole piano roll things looks a little weird to me. I can only play keyboards a little, and can see me having to create everything manually in the piano roll. I really want to get back to creating music.

The demo tracks are very impressive. I guess I just need to play around with it a little more before making a descision.

Isn't there a tracker interface now? Have a look at the 'new features' bit of their website... sure I spotted something to that effect. Once you get into the swing of dealing with instruments rather than tracks it's quite liberating anyway.

I like the look of the pattern thingy before I've even tried it! Been hoping for something that can condense patterns down and make automation stuff easier.

So many new toys to play with... Edison seems nice (it's a new wave editor, allows you to quickly chop / slice / record / generally screw around with sound on the fly by the looks of things).

Interface seems a bit cleaner too.

I didn't think there'd be an update for some time.

From reading the release notes I thought that too. I haven't see a tracker interface yet though...

I've had fruity loops for a while now and with a lot of the samples, my speakers give off this 'hard static' type sound. Anyone know why that is? Are my speakers not good enough? I have Logitech Z4 speakers and they are relitively new.

Sounds like you're getting the classic "buffer underrun"-type sound.

If you play a song, and check out the Options -> Audio Settings area, you'll likely see a slider under the heading 'DirectSound Properties'. Slide the slider to the right slowly until the 'Underruns' figure stops increasing (and you'll likely notice the 'hard static' will stop happening).

In short, the buffer size is a tradeoff between how much latency there is between making a change to the music and hearing it, and giving the sound card (via its drivers) a chance to deal with all the information it's being sent. Better drivers (WDM or ASIO drivers for your sound card) make for the ability to have lower latency, typically. If your sound card has fancy WDM or ASIO drivers, use them! If not, you can try ASIO4ALL - a 'universal' ASIO driver. If nothing else, it works quite well on my scummy ole Sound Blaster Live Value.

I got XXL cos I wanted Cytrus whch is Awesome. So does FL7 cost to upgrade? What's new in it? I guess I can fid out by checking out the site.

TRACK based sequencing is the feature people are getting TRACKER interface confused.

Fruityloops always lacked a Home studio style Track sequencer- whereby you can create patterns and arrange them on an array of tracks.

Fruityloops has a playlist which is essentially one track per pattern. HOWEVER,

as of FL7, FLStudio allows you to arrange your patterns onto tracks ALA Home Studio/Logic. This is the "track based sequencing" feature.

It only costs if you're going to 'move up' through the different 'content packages' - from Express Edition -> Fruityloops Edition -> Producer Edition -> XXL Edition.

I bought FL a long time ago, 6 years ago ( FL + TS404 + SimSynth )...

My brother really like "Cytrus", the sounds are amazing, but the price too !

I use much less FL now because I spend more time in coding ;)

Now downloading FL7...

I bought FL two weeks ago. I must say that it's hard to learn if you never used stuff like that before. The UI is intuitive, but it's hard to get around the synth-way of doing things. You know, how all effects and generators fit together and produce the sound I have in mind. I usually play organs and keyboards on stage, but this is different (though amazing) stuff.

I stopped the expedition into parameters to actually play in and arrange some tracks and I got some quite reasonable results so far. Ok, far from being perfect, but I'm learning and learning...

Making some noise is a good way to finish a coder's day with ;)

Will try out FL7 later the day...

PS: The FL-Tutorial-Videos are the worst tuts I've ever seen. It's a completely waste of time to watch them. But the online manual is pretty good.

Yeah it's become a fairly complex beast now, probably because the userbase has increased and developed, driving the need for even more powerful effects, plugins and gizmos. I think they need to chill out a bit and concentrate on simplifying and streamlining some of the interface a bit (but I have no idea how).

Wow! Played with some of FL7's new features. Especially the ability to drop&arrange waves in the playlist is awesome! Each block/wave/YouNameIt comes with a dropdown box to fastswitch to another pattern. No need to uncheck a pattern in the playlist and check another one. Just switch the Pattern in place...I love it ;)
