Orange broadband slowwww......

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Orange broadband slowwww......

Anyone else on Orange having problems with a really slow connection lately? (Past week) I`m bearly hitting the 0.5MB mark and I should be on 8MB although I`ve never been able to get that. I have tried reinstalling but still no luck. God this is annoying.

Jason.

Well you don't actually get the full 8MB unless you're living next door to the exchange. The speed you get with ADSL depends on the distance youy are from the exchange, the quality of the copper wiring and how much the connections are getting hammered by people on the same exchange as you.

This is the reason why they say you will get Up To 8MB.

If your speeds are that slow it may be best to contact Orange tech support.

Still getting my usual, crappy 1meg speed here. It must be a local issue.

On Orange 8mb here, no slow problems. Currently at this busy time of day my connection is doing 430kb/sec - When things get a bit quieter it'll pushing near 700+

Oooh, you lucky sod. :P

8meg isn't even available in my county yet, let alone my address. :/

Are you aware of the difference between megabits and megabytes?

big10p, I did mean megabits with my mb. Tends to go kb = kilobits, KB = kilobyte.

Oh I wish I had an 8MB connection :)

on a dsl connection the amount of people on the same exchange is not suppose to matter. Cable on the other hand gets bogged down during prime times. At least thats what I am told at work..I work for an isp

Yeah, I realized what you meant - I wasn't taking the mickey. :) I just meant you're lucky to get the 8meg connection. As I say, it's not even available in my county, yet. :/

LOl, I should read more slowly, I originally read it as "not even available in my country" and I thought, eh?

I wouldn't get too excited over ADSLMax, if you can get a solid 2mb connection, keep that until the usual junk problems are sorted out while people dive onto the latest thing. If your exchange ever goes LLU'd never go with a cheap company either.

I'm on an 8mb ADSL connection that's had zero downtime in the last two years. That said, my ISP only provide an 8mb service so downgrading isn't an option unless I move ISP.

I'm paying over the odds for the service (£25/month) but I do get 11 POP3 mailboxes, plus 2GB of webspace and 20GB monthly downloads (I currently don't even use 3GB/month).

There were apparently a load of problems after upgrading exchanges to ADSLMax, but I've experienced none of this. The only problem I've had turned out to be a BT line fault.

afaik Orange do not supply a DSL service - its ADSL, so you'd need to look into their contention ratio before signing up. My ISP is 50:1 but as I said before, never had any problems at all.

I`ve never had problems with Orange before, well nothing major, but just lately things are crawling along. Gonna have to give them a ring if things don`t pick up.
