MAJOR Bandwidth Abuse. Funny (but naughty)

Check this out, a friend of mine has been seriously abusing his ISP for years and has finally got a letter from them here is the letter:

Nearly 1 TB ... OMG!

In fact he has passed the 1TB now. Also he changed computers at some point last year and had nearly racked up 1TB on the old PC.

He's going to carry on until they close his account.

I used to work in the offices where that letter came from. ;)

anyway, you can brake that limit of 2gig so easily these days and be legal. ie.. downloading warcraft takes over 2 gigs, or if you reformat your PC and re-install steam, that'll swallow up a huge chunk of bandwidth.

Really ISP's need to just lose all limits and live with the fact that people need unlimited bandwidth, or he could just stop being so cheap and go with a paid for provider.

My ISP doesn't have limits, but I think they are the last one (in the UK) to offer a truly unlimited service. Actually, Zen Internet have one truly unlimited product, but that costs over £90/month. Mine costs under £70.

We're going to have to face it; limits are here to stay and are the only sustainable way of providing a quality service to the majority of users.

Cheap is right. :P I have the same 2GB Orange package - it's only an extra £2 a month to upgrade to unlimited! ;)

Limits? I was not aware that ISPs had limits.

Of course they do! Imagine if all users in the world were like
Grey's friend. The Internet would be strangled into gasping submission.

What they like doing is offering you an unlimited service but then slamming you with a Fair Usage Policy.

It's a Loophole and a new trend in the UK.

Basically, before you buy the car, they tell you that you can drive as far as you want.

And once you're signed up they tell you that you can drive as far as you want but you are subject to a Fair Usage Policy. Meaning they will stop you if you try to drive too far.

Make sense of that fellas. :)

In Spain, the ISP can't have limits, it is ilegal. :D broadband limiting is only allowed on hosting services.

Wish it was that much for my ISP.....standard setup is 15gb per month, and we pay an extra $3 to bump it to 20gb, but then again, I'm on a wireless connection, not cable/DSL. My ISP has no competition in the area (well, other then dial-up >.>) to have to make better subscription packages with.

But anyways, how friggen' long he has left BitTorrent on? It takes me roughly a minute for 10mb on my 1.5mbps (would be 2mbps if I was located closer to the wireless tower) going at full speed and not via hundreds of P2P connections....

It's like a 24 hour thing, he never shuts it down!

I'd kill his account instantly, personally. There's a difference between bending the rules and flat out taking the p*ss! :)

Well looks like he'll be looking for a new hobby next month then. ;)

For the whole month of January 07 I uploaded 150mb and downloaded 9GB.

It's got to be warez because what could else could you possibly download that would kill 1TB of bandwidth in 2 months?

Who knows, really?! I just have a dislike of anyone who thinks it's fine to steal and/or profit from other peoples' IP.

About 100 Linux DVD's?

Seriously thoug, I'm on blueyonder and have an unlimited bandwidth. I'm not aware of another providor who has unlimited bandwidth!

BE broadband have unlimited bandwidth an a 24mb connection.

They do. Or, they like to advertise that they do. It's only when you read the small print that you see that everybody who is a BE member is bound by a Fair Usage Policy. It means that if you download too much they can stop your connection and close your account.

Not only that but they were recently found in breach of advertisment standards when they claimed that people joining BE Brodaband would be able to download at super fast 24mb speed. That, was a very nasty lie and they were punished for it.

I use to be a member of BE and while with them they changed the Terms and Conditions on a weekly basis.

When 02 bought Be that's when the service started going down hill and the 'scam your customers to make a profit' mindset came in to play.

At least though I can say that BE were a 100 times better than Bulldog Broadband which means a lot when your an ISP.
