I'm annoying my last Broadband provider :)

My previous Broadband provider was Be Unlimited. When I moved home I canceled my account and was charged £50 for the cancelation. They also requested that i send the modem they gave me back by special delivery.

I told them I didn't have the money to send the modem back and for them to send me a prepaid return pack so that I could post it to them. They refused.

After they refused I told them that i will be charging them storage fee's at £19.99 because their equipment was being stored at my property. I'm refering to the modem.

Lat month I sent them a bill for £19.99 storage fee's for having the modem at my property.

Today I got an email asking me if I still had the modem and I replied that i did and that they were well in to the second month of storage charges. I also asked about the bill i sent them.

I don't know if i can legally do what I'm doing and I in no way want to wait and find out. I'll be sending the modem back next Tuesday but first I want to have some fun. :)

What do you guys think they will do? Will they pay the storage charge bill i sent them? Will they lay the smackdown on me?

Well if you've agreed a 12 month contract then cancelled early, the smallprint probably says you must return their hardware as it remains their property until the end of the first 12 month period. They can also ask for payment of the full 12 months, or pay a cancellation fee which you said you've done.

Bottom line is, they aren't going to pay your 'storage fee'.

They probably aren't going to take you to court over it, either, since they'll buy them in bulk and get them for pence anyway. The cost of pursuing it makes it financially unviable.

They might do it anyway just to make a point, as you're being funny with them. But I doubt it.

It'll cost you about £3 to send it back by registered post. I'm guessing that you know this, and the cost is not the real reason you haven't returned it.

You guess correctly. :) I just feel like annoying them. I'll be sending the modem back on Tuesday and just wanted to see what kind of poo i could stir in the mean time. :)

There is no 12 month contract with Be Unilimited. All they ask is that you give them 3 months notice before closing your account or they will charge an express cancelation fee of £50 and get you disconnected within 5-10 days.

Their contract states that they are leasing the modem to me and that the fee is included in my monthly statemant. I didn't spot anywhere that states I had to send the modem back.

Also, they charge £100 for any unreturned modem. :)

[edit] After reading their legal document it states that the modem must be returned. But, it doesn't state how it should be returned i.e Do I pay to return it? Do they Pay for the return? Do I send the modem to them by Donkey travel?

I've saved the terms and conditions just in case they modify them. :)

I'm probably going to get a slap from all this anyway, but, I am eager to find out how hard the slap will be. :)

Problem is that it says it must be returned, how is irrelevant. Also the terms at which the modem is considered "unreturned" is for them to decide. They could just as easily say it was unreturned after 2 days just as you can easily say "I send the modem to them by Donkey travel".

Basically it sounds like they are protecting themselves from people like you =P

I think most ISPs just send the lads 'round with baseball bats, after a while. -_-

Well at least there'd be a better chance of it arriving safely than if it were sent by Royal Mail ;)

A lot of companies just pay bills without checking it's authenticity. Particularly large companies with small bills (particularly if the number on the envoice is smaller than the ammount of money it would cost to verify it's authenticity). There was some major scams going on with that a few years back. However from what I understand it isn't exactly illegal.

1) You will be in trouble.

2) Se the contract you accepted when getting the broad band. it contains all detail and legal notes. You canot breake em. includeing quit early in contract.

3) In US and EU the company with the stronges $$ seam to win all cases :) and this cold cost you dearly easy like 10.000 $

It's the european convention to use . where the British and Americans would use a comma when it comes to numerical formatting.

Just tell them that you'll only accept pickup from your own house unless they send you a cheque for postage costs. It's not like you're losing out in the meantime as you had to pay 50 pounds to NOT use their service.

If they have an e-mail address send them pictures of the modem, next to hammers/the kitchen sink hinting that it may get damaged in storage, or alternatively you could do some programming :)

I've heard nothing from them yet. Lets see what happens.

At the end of the day I'm probably going to get a slap so the best thing to do would be to send the damn thing back.
