Nice little platformer

http://knytt.ni2.se/

was this written in blitz?

No, Multimedia Fusion 2. It`s a great little game that I played a while back. Well worth playing if your`e after something a little different.

Actually this is just one of many great little games that come from users of ClickTeam products. I wonder why we don`t see these types of game from the Blitz crowd? We have a much more powerful product in Blitz but no one seems to make any platformers of old school 2D games nowadays :( This is a great shame in my eyes.

Jason.

Knytt is nice, but it's not really a game. There's only three bad guy's and one puzzle, if you don't count the hidden areas, in the whole game, and the platforms aren't challenging in the slightest. I completed it in one sitting without much effort. Having said all that I did enjoy it though, it's quite relaxing.

MMF2 seems like the tool for the job for a simple platformer. I plan on using it to whip up a casual game or two down the road, myself.

k&p is where it all started for me! :)

I love Knytt, it has alot of style and doesn't try to do too much.

QuickSilva: I'm actually making a platform game in Blitz (pogo fred) and the original demo was made in Click'n'Create yeeeeears ago ;)

I think there is a definite benefit to the higher level of design and game construction offered by these game creators, versus having to write program code for everything. I know there usually seems to be a direct correlation between what level you're creating at (ie low-level programs or high-level interfaces), and the amount of flexibility you have, but it doesn't have to be that way.

Knytt looks pretty basic, but it certainly does have that platform style.

I agree it is a pity that so much focus is placed on popular game styles, ie 3d mainly, these days, and the 2d genres seem to be much less focussed on. I think it's partly because they were done SO MUCH in the 8-bit/16-bit/32-bit console/home computer days that people generally think there isn't anything new you can do that hasn't been done. And since the technology has moved on and people like to play with the new stuff - texture maps and all that, I don't think it's as popular.

Some folks at Indiegamer showed me that game a while ago in my search for examples of "meditative games", and Knytt has certainly given me some inspiration.
Great little game :)

You should also try Within a Deep Forest, from the same author. This game is much more challenging, in fact it was too hard for some players, this is the reason why Knytt is so easy.

Anyway, I enjoyed playing Knytt, it has a real atmosphere.

It just seems strange that when games like Cave Story are so popular and would probably sell bucket loads people still churn out the same 3D crap year after year even though 3D is a more difficult area to make an impact in in my view.

Looking at the Daily Clicks game of the week feature there are some really nice, and polished 2D games in there. The community seems to be a younger crowd too so really they should be more into 3D I would think. This hasn`t stopped them producing some great games though and I think it would be cool to see some similar stuff being produced in Blitz.

I realise that it is harder to code a game in Blitz but it would be a great feature to add to the site to have a game a month or something similar.

Jason.

What other meditative games did you find, Mr Picklesworth?

Like Kragoth, I suggest you try out Within a Deep Forest... loads of fun.
