Blitz Basic Vs. Blitz Plus
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Blitz Basic Vs. Blitz Plus
What's the deal with Blitz Plus, I can do more simple programs with Blitz Basic... than I can with Blitz Plus!
I mean seriously Input, and Graphics are much easier
to do with Blitz Basic. I mean seriously you pay 60 bucks for blitz+ and its incompetent compared to something I got for free!?
Help!
Get BlitzMax.
Definately. I don't see why anyone would pay for Blitz+ when
Max can do all the same things and more. Not to mention it's
got proper hardware acceleration and OOP if you really want it.
Siopses, don't spend any of your valuable money on those obsolete
versions of BlitzMax, get the real deal and worry no more!
I thought blitz plus was for gui based windows programs more than games. Does BMax have all the windows gui functionality built in and doesn't hog all the CPU time?
If you have B+, then you'll get the GUI module for Bmax for free (or at least, so it seems), which means you can just do in Bmax what you could do in B+. So in all cases: get BMax and the GUI module.
Even games need a GUI, no so much for the game itself, but where are you going to edit maps and such?

Anyone see the odd statement here? considering BlitzBasic stuff works in B+? eh? eh!?
B+ is easier for beginners than Bmax with GUI, but i'd still thoroughly reccomend it over what has become known as an incomplete product (B+).
I tried the demo of B+ and it lacked alot of the features I hoped for, but still, commercial games have come of it. Didn't Easter Bonus come from B+? :)
Yeah Xmas and Easter BOnus were BPlus and so was the original PLatypus. I do recommend MAx though for sure, but only for games, I can't comment on the BUI side of BMax but I bet it's better tahn BPlus and better supported too...
Max GUI Is pretty cool. My only gripe with it is it not supporting native fullscreen modes- but the Windows GUI doesn't support it either.
Did B+ support fullscreen with GUI?
and so was the original PLatypus.
Are you sure? Seems like the original Platypus was out a long time before BlitzPlus ever existed.
B+ is cool cos its simple and works on machines running DX1 (ie. nearly all).
Fontext was written in B+.
I do like Bmax and MaxGui tho. MaxGUI is much better than the GUI stuff in B+.
I think the original Platypus was made in BlitzBasic, which means it could also be done in B+ since it's backwards cmopatible.
Oh OK, it's been like 4 years according to Anthony so maybe it was BBasic then, I wasn't round here then. I'm a 2 year noob.
If you want what B+ offers (no Hardware acc...etc), try Cobra, I don't want AD it but cobra has something pretty eye-catching.
I'm a 2 year noob.
Yet over 10000 forumposts! Compared to my trackrecord, prolly since 2003 orso, at almost 2500... 10000+ in 2 years is *sick* .. :-)
Platypus was originally compiled in a particularly early version of Blitzbasic, but yes can be compiled in B+.
But compiling anything in B+ is better since it has been written in DirectX1 and will run on any PC using WIndows without having to install a new version of DIrectX, and also makes very fast programs.
I'm going to stick with Blitz Plus, I think If I learn how to do things the hard way then I'll be better off in the future. I'll
deal with the Blitz Plus GUI limitations for now.
Grey:
10,000+ posts in 2 years? I've been here since before then and I'm not that far up yet, and I've been pretty addicted.
To the point where there were days when EVERY topic's last post was by me.
10,000 posts = about 14 posts a day.
Whats more amazing is that Grey's done so much in the last 2 years alongside those 10,000 posts :P
That makes my 8000posts in 6 years more acceptable :)

hehe. To be honest I started slow, jus posted in the BPlus forum for help then I found General Discussion and became horribly addicted for a year or so, then I made lots of posts in BMax when making my framework, but for the last 6 months or so I think it's slowed down a bit...maybe...
I don't know about input, but last time I checked Graphics was more or less exactly the same in BlitzPlus. I don't get what the problem is - B+ is for all purposes exactly the same as BB, except with more features and a lower system spec.
