3D Gizmo

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/3D Gizmo

Hey guys/gals. As work continue on my 3d world editor, some people suggested a ditch the mode thing i had going on, where you had to click on the rotate mode to rotate, the move mode to move... etc... So, i came up with this gizmo thingy to handle it. The scaling is yet to be decided on.

The gizmo will match the cameras Y axis rotation, as the movement reflects the cameras orientation.

Anyone spot anything wrong with it? Just want to know before i write the code behind it :o)

It needs one of those attachments for getting stones out of horses hooves. And a little pair of scissors.

I'll take that as, it's over complicated?

Aye its too 'busy'.

3DS Max has a much simpler one. The circles and lines are clickable. Circles = rotation, Lines/arrows = movement.

looks like easy handling

Thanks panno :o)

Gfk, does it have a scaling ability?

You see the X/Y/Z lines?

I'm sure that in later versions of Max, they have arrowheads on the end. Clicking the arrowheads is used for moving, while clicking on the line itself causes scaling on that axis. Clicking on the vertex where the three lines meet causes scaling on all three axes.

I reckon you've got a nice little gizmo there structurally. I expect you'll have it appear simpler but it looks like it'd work great to me.

Ok thanks for the opinons. I'll try a simplier gizmo, but i'll implement the current one as well, due to some positive feedback on it.

Thanks again guys

I think it looks pretty funky, and while it would take some getting used to, the fact that it looks like a 'real' tool may be a benefit. (Maybe!)
