Wiiconnect24=Dead Internet?

Hi All,
Any of you Wii users notice any slowdown when your Wii is "off" but WiiConnect24 is enabled? my net is unbearably slow, but when I unplug the wii, it's fine.
I'm going to be turning off WiiConnect24.
No problems here. Are you using a router or ICS?
I'd hazard a guess it's downloading updates or something and hogging all your bandwidth, just like bittorrent does.
No we don't suffer any problems here.
IPete2.

Nahh the Wii doesn't hog bandwidth like that.
What JP said, I'd reckon that the Wii doesn't even break 5mb bandwidth a day when it's left on 24/7.
I don't understand the point of WiiConnect24. Whenever I see the blue lights flashing on my Wii, I turn it on only to see that I need to download the update. What is the point in that? Why doesn't it download while I'm not around?
Probably do so it doesn't hog bandwidth without your knowledge. It tells you when you have email and it downloads news & weather in the background.
I don't get a flashy blue light.
it's using Wifi, and I came to the conclusion that it is simply clashing with the signal and knocking the connection strength out :/
Clashing with what signal? There's a connection test option on the setup screen. If it passes that then it's working.
You get the flashing light when you have an email waiting.
Nope, I don't get the flashing light with an email. :P
And the test works, the wii is connected fine- but when it is connected, my PC and other web-based stuff are quite unusable. Turning the WII off solves the problem.
WiiConnect24 is easy. In regular use it does a "check update" all 5 mins according my routers log. Even with downloading, the Wii is less hogging than Free Download Manager for example (and no where near BitTorrent / Emule etc)
Eh? You receive email on your Wii but there's no blue light? Have you turned it off in the options?
Nope, No blue light. Though there's a good chance its not turned on. Anyhoo, the problem is that of it being on, and my dead internet connection.
I've stopped my PC from completely disconnecting by changing the Wireless channel, but seriously, I may as well be on dial up at the mo, not the 2mb connection I am currently using.
So you ARE getting emails on your Wii?
yes I am getting emails, just no blue light :)) but thats not the issue! :O
Dreamora has given me an idea though, I should check my router's log. Thanks :)
Could it be that the wii is downgrading the wireless router to b instead of g?
It does not downgrade anything, but Wii as Nintendo DS is only B capable, not G

The DS isn't even B capable actually, it runs plain ol' 802.11.
Btw, quick question Cygnus, is your router set to G only by anychance? If so, set it to B&G (or as my router likes to call it, "mixed"), that *might* solve your problem.
I had the router set up correctly.
Anyway- Last night, my Wireless network completely vanished from view, so my guess is the router has gone a bit iffy. I had to hard-reset the thing and reconfigure before anything would show up, then I had to reinstall the wifi drivers on the computers using it. For some reason they wouldn't connect until I did this. (OK, probably didn't need to reinstall the drivers, prob just needed to clear the wireless key but it feels cleaner now :P)
Strange, it's been working for months without problems. Something about the Wii must just be setting it off. I guess I should buy a better router- though this one is pretty damn good (except when it doesn't work :P)
I've come to the conclusion that you either live on top of a lay line or in the Twilight Zone. ;o)

Can I use that quote in my sig? because I agree!
