Check your wii tonight chaps, you may have an update, we're just getting ours now!

IPete2.

I have already :) The new News Channel is great! Check it out.

Jason.

cool - except ours has stopped half way through the update - we shall leave it incase it commences again...

Sigh! Come on!!!!

he said impatiently

IPete2.

I want a wii!!

well you should've gone before you left the house....

I quite like the News Channel, simple, intuitive, ad-free, and something even an idiot can navigate without worry for news on recent topics...

I hate you European users though, you're getting quite the treat with your N64 VC titles, we still only got Mario64, yet you guys are already getting what I believe is your 3rd one, that being MarioKart64.

some of us still own the original games on the original consoles, so I'm not too fussed getting a wii right now.

Just what is going on here?

We`ve only had Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64 but the Virtual Console is a great addition to have. I love playing the old classics again, it reminds me of a time when games were actually fun. Myself, I can`t stop playing Gunstar Heroes and Street Fighter 2. It`s so much better playing these for real again rather than on an emulator, especially with the Classic controller which is just a joy to use.

I`m so glad I got my Wii :) Best spend for ages. I urge everyone to get one.

Jason.

Yeah like I said I'm desperate for a Wii but can't buy one right now. I need to fix my PS2 first...

My Wii comes next week. It comes with Wii sports and Zelda. :)

I ordered a wireless netgear router from telewest which arrived yesterday to use with my Wii. I can't wait. :) PS3, Bah!

I have a 20000pt Wii card waiting to be spent on cool old games from ages gone by......ACK

Your router not have a built-in menu (usually accessed in your web-browser by typing 192.168.1.1 into your URL bar) for setting up stuff like WEP/WPA security encryptions?

So what exactly is on the news channel? lol...aside from...news?

What else would a News Channel need beside News? ;/

It's just a simple interface, with the option to make a slideshow of recent news, as well as a 3d globe (same one used in Forecast channel) which you can zip-about to see the location of news sources, pretty handy if you want to see something for a specific region of the world.

Amazing! So how is that better or more convenient than using your internet equipped PC?

Well it`s a hell of a lot quicker to boot up for one and you don`t have to trawl through all the crap to get to what you are looking for.

It`s also a godsend to have in the living room for example to quickly catch up on things if you are rushing off to work.

Using the remote itself is much more fun.

...and you can zoom in - the text reformats itself word by word as it gets bigger and bigger, plus you can skip over to You Tube and watch some funny videos if you want using the Internet browser (which is currently free).

The Weather channel gives you a snap shot of the weather where you live so that too is useful, but these are only little fun additions not major features.

I can see a time when PC's will run everything in your house including TV delivery in HD (when it arrives) but PCs and broadband connection speed will have to be fantastic compared to today's average domestic speeds to deal with all the data.

The domestic server was shown at the Microsoft keynote a couiple of weeks ago... the day is coming when we will have multiple PCs networked and doing loads of different jobs around the house. Posh people won't just need cleaners any more, a network expert will be joinging 'them downstairs' to cover daily maintenance!

After the news channel is now there as well, I ask myself why Nintendo did not have a look at X360 before implementing those features.

We are in 2007, its kind of inacceptable if data is not cached for later usage.

Shop channel takes forever to load (even using IE5 is worlds faster), weather and news channel seem to load the whole page before even showing up ... as if streaming loading would be impossible today?!
