Blitz Portal now has 15 games!

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Blitz Portal now has 15 games!

OK a while ago I mentioned my idea of having a Blitz Portal (and some of you seemed vaguely interest), well now I've got 15 Blitz games on http://www.greyaliengames.com made in BlitzPlus, Blitz3D and BlitzMax. Some of them work on Macs too.

Titles include:

All my Bonus/Oz games.
Sudoku Maya Gold
Inca Quest
Temple of Tangram
Maggie the Gardener 2
Toms Hen House
Bubble Blitz
Bubble Bomb
TriviaNet Challenge
Geom
Platypus!
Absolute Blue

Please check it out and tell your friends.

If you want to see your game on there, let me know!

Also if you'd like to subscribe to my newsletter for info on new releases, special offers and other cool stuff, please go here and enter your email address and I'll sell it to highest bidder (kidding):

Thanks for looking!

this is great..I would like to suggest, if you think its a good idea, to open some kind of gallery for upcoming titles you going to put on web site..I'll be glad to post screenshots from our upcoming 3D platformer there..

A gallery for upcoming titles sounds like a good idea - thanks!

I'd probably call it "coming soon" on the title bar. I'd need some text about the games too and a webaddress and some assurance that the game will be finished ;-)

if I were valve, I'd be rethinking my steam portal about now....

..what kind of assurance you are looking for Grey?? I know that many folks begin but never finish their projects, so your point is clear, so, you can monitor for example, regular updates for specific title so obviously if there is no regular update, be free and remove info about that game...me personally really looking seriously to finish my 3D platformer..really no jokes..

telesto: Yeah man, they better watch out.

Naughty Alien: Well for example, if a developer has already made a commercial game then they stand a pretty good chance of finishing the next one, same goes for if they've made some really decent free games. Also if they have a decent looking website it may show that they are serious (although some people spend all the time on the site and none on the game!). Other than taht I guess I'll need to see demos and find out timescales for completion etc. Good luck with your game btw, a 3D platformer sounds cool!

Finishing a game is easy. Finishing a game worth playing is the difficult part. I think this is the part that people get confused about. What I'm saying is, I'd rather not finish a superb game than release a bunch of mediocre games just so I can say I finished a game. It all boils down to what you're goal is I guess. To make a really unique and great game or just get your stuff finished and out there.

Personally, I'd rather work on a superb game that sells 100,000+ units than make a bunch of mediocre games that sell a couple hundred each. There's SOOOOO much garbage out there it's just saddening. It appears though that it's kinda like the people on American Idol. They get up there actually believing they can sing. Then when Simon kicks em in the face they are shocked. Yes, it may appear that I'm negative but I'm really not. Everyone's opinion of success is different. Some people are happy selling 200 units. Some define success at 50,000+ units. I'm the latter I guess.

Now when you get the combination of a great game idea (think Naked War) and the ability to see a project through to the end (Pickford Bros). That's the magic formula imo.

I think eventually Halo will get to that point. Maybe I will with Orbicus. Since I've quit EQ the odds of me finishing it have skyrocketed immensely.

Nice to see platypus up there.

Yeah Platypus is there, but sadly I can't affiliate directly with Anthony Flack (as I have done with many of the other developers).

Chroma: btw, Wizard of Oz has had > 500,000 downloads and made 1000s of sales. I regard it as a success :-) Good luck with your own stuff.

Grey Alien: I'm glad you've experienced some success. Just stay humble and you'll be fine.

humble, pah! I'm the greatest! That's what Muhammad Ali said and then it became true.

I hope someone remembers my share in all of this. Nobody has ever discussed my percentage in any of this. I gave up taking forum rent from some members of the community about a year ago now. It would seem embarrasing for me to say, but I'd expect an offer of 2% on each unit. Would seem fair to me.

I assume there are no objections.

Unfortunately it doesn't matter if you can't get traffic to your site. Good luck!

Unfortunately it doesn't matter if you can't get traffic to your site.
...and your point is?

Unfortunately it doesn't matter if you can't get traffic to your site.

The following link speaks for itself....

http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?site0=www.webappstogo.com&site1=greyaliengames.com&site2=&site3=&site4=&y=r&z=1&h=300&w=500&range=6m&size=Medium&url=www.webappstogo.com

I think what I said was pretty clear. If you don't have traffic you won't sell much of anything really. Do you get it now Gfk?

well that's funny because I am selling things and making ad revenue. Besides adding more games is all part of getting more traffic + I've got a marketing To Do list several pages long that I'm putting bits of into action every day.

Thanks for the stats Cicero. I'll be checking that more often:

http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?site0=greyaliengames.com&site1=&site2=&site3=&site4=&y=r&z=1&h=300&w=500&range=6m&size=Medium&url=www.greyaliengames.com

Shows I've risen 917,000 in the last three months to 318,000 cool and a 550% increase in reach.

I "got it" in the first place. I just don't see the relevance of your comment when Grey Alien Games *does* have traffic.

I assume it was just a bit of trolling. No matter. I certainly could do with *more* traffic :-)

Please be aware that before you give puki his percentage (owed to him) I would like mine. I will take no less than 3%.

Now that's a troll. :)

I have "puki-blindness" like you know "ad-blindess" that people get when they browse the web.

I certainly could do with *more* traffic

Tell me about it...I think we all could

..hey Grey..I forgot to ask..is this portal only for Blitz made games??

Naughty Alien: I haven't really made my mind up. It could be a blitz only one but most of the community showed a lack of interest so I may well add other games to it, for example I've been talking to the developer of Titan Attacks and Robotron amongst others. Do you have a non blitz game for it?

well..game I'm working on(3D Platformer), will be actually non blitz related product (B3D is for prototyping)..thats why I'm asking

if it's good enought I'll sell it :-)

goood :) by the way, I check over it..so when user finish payment, how you splitting money? How is it going to be? How developer receiving his money?

Basically you need to sign up to BMT Micro, Plimus or ShareIt to sell your game through them. Then I sign up to your game as an affiliate and you offer me say 40% and the payment provider handles the rest :-) It's easy. If you get your game on Reflexive I can always affiliate to it through them as well.

oh, okay...

and you offer me say 40%

WHAT?!?!

Chroma: You know the normal range for affiliate sales is 30-50% right? (all my Bonus games are 40%) Otherwise it's not even worth me setting up a page for the game. Portals will take 60-70% so affiliate sales are better for the developer.

I think 40% is quite reasonable for a sale that you wouldnt have made if it wasnt on Greys Site, and dont forget, the whole point is that you are to try and sell Greys game on your site, and you get 40% of those sales.
Its just a very good way for indie developers to get a wider profile on the web. If Greys site gets more hits, and therefore more sales, then good on him, he deserves the 40%, if my site (for example, which doesnt exist), gets more hits and sells more Easter Bonous (say), then I get the 40%. No One looses.
(Unless Ive missunderstood, but thats how it seemed to be presented when Grey first raised the Issue)

@Grey,

Good work. Good luck.

yeah H&K that's exactly it. If two different website promote each other's games we get maybe double the coverage/visitors which is a good thing for everyone.

What about KeePeeUppy?

www.boiledsweets.com/KeePeeUppy

Considering that in my main industry, affiliate payouts range from 50% - 80% (recurring), 40% isn't that bad to pay someone to sell your games. Especially since you can market more games from within your game and make direct sales that way.

SpaceAce

What about KeePeeUppy?
Yep I added it to my list when you mentioned it before. I'll let you know when it's up there. It'll be on the free games page. Thanks!

I thought that you were affiliating directly? The download link goes to Reflexive.

IF you dont suck. Frankly, I wouldn't touch your site unless your cut was 10%

You need to price depending on what you offer. I'd give 40-60% if its a portal with hundreds of thousands of active users. But when you have 10 hits a day, forget it.

Not a flame, just a reality check... as the site grows developers will want to give away more of their cut.

Do you mean for Geom? Where possible on my site I have affiliated directly. I emailed you about Geom, I'll email you again...

Can you please affiliate with eSellerate, I've a long standing relationship with them and don't really want to go down the Plimus route. In fact I'd rather not sell the game than go Plimus.

You'll find that with an offer of 10%, most people won't touch your product with a bargepole. It goes both ways, your potential affiliates are judging your product, price and percentage against a big list of others, they'll just laugh at your 10% and pick a 30-40% game.

What cicero said ^^

Yeah, at 10% there's no upside for the affiliate.

Can you please affiliate with eSellerate
OK will do. will be a few days though...

Glad some people can see sense on the 10% issue. When I was first browsing the list of games on one my payment providors I nearly laughed when I saw a game at 10%, it wasn't even well known. That kind of miserlyness is backward business sense.

I insist on 5%. Anything higher would be uncivilized!
