Digital photo frames getting cheaper

I can remember a few months ago the digital picture frames being around £100+

They are creeping down to sub £50.00:

let's be honest, it's not short on features for what it is.

I'm quite impressed by it and I am pondering about buying one - just to have one, not because I have any particular use for it.

You could load it up with fantasy textures.

I really dont get these things. I'd rather look at a proper photo.

Well, they are kind of sci-fi - I can imagine people buying them purely for novelty value - which is really the reason I am interested in them.

The good ones you can't even tell they aren't "proper" photos.

Even so, to me it seems like a classic case for "Just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean you should". :)

Also, if - in the near future - even our picture frames are going to need energy to work, that's hardly eco-friendly. This planet is doomed, I tells ya! :p

They are tempting, mostly because we get so very ripped off for the cost of printer ink. It is still the most expensive liquid on the planet isn't it? I saw some ink cartridge or other listed on Argos web site today at something like £54. So one of these digital frame things makes loads of sense if you are into digital photography. You can even change the images, can't do that with a photo, only collect them, cycle them into a frame sometimes, watch them age and take up space and collect dust around the home. As long as you never look at a photo in a frame at night and only during day light, then yes, I suppose they are eco friendly. Who said luddite?

Oh and they are a few quid cheaper at dabs I just noticed. Also comes with mains PSU lump, which is nice; fed up with paying extra for those.

..Tell me about it!... I went to PC World to get some ink for my Epson CX3200 printer...£60!!!... and to as if to take the P!55... right next to the ink was a complete Lexmark printer that does even MORE than my Epson... for £29.99 ?????... complete WITH ink!!!!

The "eco-mentalists" should attack the ink companies... cos my "old" printer is now in the dustbin & I got a Lexmark... complete with 2 skips full of cardboard packaging & polystyrene... AND I'm £30 better off! :P lol

we need solar power ones, then I'd be interested.

Can't you can just go to a digital photo kiosk or somewhere like costco and get prints for $0.17 (8p) each.

I just wouldn't want to own one if it mean plugging in with a wire or using batteries, how "retro".

As opposed to all the dangerous chemicals and heavy metals that go into developing photographs?

The real interesting thing is when Digital Paper & Digital Ink make it onto the mainstream market -- that way you only need electricity to upload/change the image, but after it's on there it will retain the information without needing power.

These frames, can they also play movies ? I thought it could be fun to make a short movie loop that looks like a photo, but with the person on it blinking his/her eyes.

Most of them will allow a slideshow of multiple pictures... So I guess if you can change the image fast enough without any fancy transitions, you can get the effect you're looking for...
