Best New Game Console: Your opinion welcome

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Best New Game Console: Your opinion welcome

Just wanted to know what the most popular new console is
here. Mine's the Wii

x 3 6 0

I think my name says it all.

Although I do feel the 360 is a fairly competent gaming rig as well.
(just never bothered with one since I ain't going to play a high-def machine on my crappy 480i TV)

PS3

Dreamcast

It's new... ish.

Xbox 360

360 is great for a really great, well integrated interface that has lots of web services and stuff that just works (and well!).
It will be quite perfectly rivalling Apple TV any moment now...

The Wii is also great, but in its own way. The interface on the thing still begs for a bit more work, and its services thanks to the completely unfriendly friendliness system (eg: Friend codes) are not as good as they could be.

As for actual game potential... Wii is wonderfully unique, while X360 is your usual old gameplay though noticeably enhanced by that powerful interface. (Especially the online features).

Then actual games... Was it just me, or did Nintendo have absolutely no Christmas line-up this year for either Wii or DS?
Have they forgotten that they are a game publisher?!
I'm hoping they sort that out, because the current lack of any games published by (or made by) Nintendo is ridiculous.

The Wii has incredible potential, especially with WiiConnect 24.
Unfortunately, Nintendo seems to afraid of making it happen. They absolutely have to drop some of that "kid-friendly" 'everyone is a number' system, and open up their online features. As soon as people can easily add their friends to their friends list, those online features will start to kick ass.
You still have time to fix this, Nintendo! Don't screw it up!
They saw all those complaints - and the complete lack of praise - about the DS' botched friends system (and therefore also limited online play)... right?
Then the actual menu... the Wii's menu is cool, and its channels system is a good idea. They should take a page from the 360's book, though, and work on borrowing a few ideas from them.

They also really have to admit it:
That channels system is begging for unofficial folks to develop their own. With the Opera browser to download them (just add a little file protocol!), Nintendo could let it happen.
Nintendo will never make a channel that gives you a PC -> Wii media streaming system, but I bet someone else would love to and I bet a lot of people would use it.
If they were to release their own dev kit -- a highly restricted dev kit, perhaps -- then maybe piracy on the Wii would not happen as quickly; all the smart people would be having enough fun with the official, free and controlled channel dev kit so they would not feel any urge to bother cracking through the piracy protection features and (eventually) letting the evil pirates pirate games and eventually cheat in multiplayer.

I'm torn between the Wii and the 360 ... they are both together by far the best two gaming consoles to date. It's impossible for me to choose one over the other. How about 36Wii?

360 here, I admire the wii but for the most part the games all suck. If they can turn that around and make decent games that make proper use of the controller then I could be steered the other way.

The potential is there but the 360 just has the better games at the moment.

SNES, have you guys heard of it?

Wii for me. No other consoles are even being considered.

the 360 just has the better games at the moment.
I didn't know Gears of War was in plural.

Gears of War is outstanding but truth be told Red Steel isn't as bad as the critics make it sound. I had about as much fun playing both games. Zelda on the Wii is great too. On both consoles I actually have purchased more of the downloadable game content than retail. Still I'd have to agree with Ad, the Wii is lacking compared to the 360 for traditional games. There are a few gems and for the 360 there are just a few more. The year head start helped I'd say.

Well I bought a PS2 last week and I've been having lots of fun playing Japanese RPGs on it.

I won't buy any of the current generation until they've dropped in price and gained a decent back catalogue of games that I like. However, seeing as my favourite console game genre is the Japanese RPG and that most games of this type are released on Sony consoles, I expect to (eventually) prefer to PS3 to the 360 and Wii.

Honestly though, isn't it way, way, way too early to have a favourite "next generation" console? Doing so reeks of fanboyism to me.

Wot JustLuke said.

I'll be continuing to enjoy my PS2 for another couple of years yet. By then, the PS3 might be affordable, and the others might have something on them worth paying hundreds of dollars to play.

I'm still playing the original xbox, which to be honest, was never used to it's fullest, you need to remember it's twice as powerful as the PS2 and could've had some really really good looking games written for it. Say for example, GTA, you could've written a GTA game on the xbox that would've been way bigger and more complex than San adnreas but unfortunately this never happened, more proof of this is the doom3 and half life 2 ports that were just not possible on PS2.

I really like the X360, if it were not for that darn controller. GRAW, COD3, and GOW are all well done.

I'm voting for myself.

I second that vote

I really like the X360, if it were not for that darn controller.

Really? The controller was the thing I was most impressed with. I thought I'd find it vastly inferior to the PS2 pads, but it's surprisingly good for me.

GRAW, COD3, and GOW are all well done.

Tried Rainbow Six:Vegas? It surprised me. Far, far better than all the previous R6 games. None of the tactical map crap, just kinda like 24 set in Las Vegas. ( Except all your teammates don't betray you and/or die on the hour ever hour ;) )

My best console? Well my PSP is eating up more gaming time than my PC and XBox360 put together, so I guess that wins, with X360 second, because it's cheaper and nicer than a monster gaming PC. I'm sure I'll end up with a PS3 because that's going to have all the games, but I don't see any point in pissing my money away on one for a year or so, because it's always a year before decent games come out for anything.

I love my 360. Between the wireless controllers and the XBox Live/Arcade capabilities, I'm in gaming heaven.

Wii for me. No other consoles are even being considered.

How's that online play working out for you?

Still waiting for rev2s for each of the consoles due to different reasons.

PS3, then the Wii Wii.

Dreamcast

Hey with nearly a decade old, theres still new games comming out for it. Great system though.

PS3? What are you playing on it?

Before i sold it for $$$, I played Genji (didn't like), NBA 2k7, Need for Speed Carbon, and of course Resistance - which was the first console FPS that I actually like since Golden Eye for the N64.

I don't think you understood the thread. :)

> Really? The controller was the thing I was most impressed with.

I should mention I don't like ANY of the console controllers, with the exception of the Wii's. Maybe I'm just to old to be playing games with my thumbs.

I think I'm staying out of this gen for the forseeable future. It all just stinks to me. Grumble grumble...

Wii = Great Multiplayer (great when I have pals over otherwise boring).
360 = Great Single Player and Multiplayer.

How's that online play working out for you?
Not at all. Online play is a bit difficult without an Internet connection. Thankfully I have a big screen TV, a comfortable couch and no short supply of friends.

Wii first, 360 second. I swapped my 360 for a Wii, and will likely get the 360 later on in it's life.

Zelda TP on Wii is awesome, but some of the games make UNREQUIRED use of the controller, like on this Monster truck game, it stresses your hands because to do a stunt to get turbo, you have to throw your hands around in the air. No need. I like the idea of using the buttons conveniently placed on the steering wheel! :)

Thankfully I have a big screen TV, a comfortable couch and no short supply of friends.

Hey, congrats! I have all that AND an internet connection. Man it's great being me...

1. Wii
2. 360

There is no third place. I'd rather start playing on a PC with Linux then on a PS3 -.-

1. Wii
2. Nintendo DS Lite
3. 360 in case the rumored new built for this year does not use that much power, gets some nice addition and does not cost that much anymore. Unless that happes I won't buy it, most games are kind of boring as beeing the same stuff I play since 1986 on my consoles ^^

Well, forgot the DS Lite :-) I always have mine with me when I'm out. Tetris DS for the win!

Wii60 myself, dual console is the way to go for me... I'm just waiting on the Wii to come in stock, and stay there, so I can officially say that.
