.biz?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/.biz?

So... what are your thoughts about using .biz instead of .com or .net - would this be ok for a commercial site or do you think that it's bit unknown and can be confusing (-> ppl going to the wrong site)? Any published surveys etc how widespread .biz use is these days?

Well Wikipedia says

Although many .biz registrations have taken place (second only to .info among the new TLDs), critics note that it still has low name recognition with the general public, little use by major reputable businesses, and much use in spam, scams, and porn.

Which isn't promising. Can't get the .com you'd really like?

I always use .co.uk, .com or .net. Wouldn't really consider anything else.

I don't think its confusing, but it does sound a bit naf.

I personally wouldn't bother.

use .com for commercial, .net for any old thing, and .org for non-profit things. That seems to be the norm, the expectation.

Yup... all the best names I can think of are already taken, and .co.uk is not available for me (and I really don't even want that because it's so... british :))

I was afraid that you would say that .biz isn't so good, just somehow hoped that it would be. Tempting, but maybe not the best option I guess...

sell you www.omgwtflmao.com for a few grand.

I think the .biz extension is quite naff.

Lol, both of those are free ;)

I would definitely take a dot net before I would take a dot biz. You do still run the risk of people typing dot com and hitting the wrong site, but dot net is fairly standard and does not have any negative connotations.

I suppose another option would be to contact the registrants of a few domains you liked the sound of and see if they would sell for a reasonable price.

There are still a lot of good .coms to be found. You just have to be prepared to be flexible because you are not going to get your first pick. Just try to think of something unique but catchy.

Another good possiblity is to trawl through expired domain lists in the hope of something cool.

Because if he took them, Ford would undoubtedly sue him.

Bah, I'd not let a trivial thing like that get in the way ;)

.biz is a very low level extension - don't buy one
