Need an old Amiga mag - anyone have it?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Need an old Amiga mag - anyone have it?

[edited, cos i are wrong!]

Hello.

I realise this is a hell of a long shot, but does anybody happen to have a copy of either:

CU Amiga Feb 1997
Amiga Format #97 - May 1997?

There was a preview of a game I was working on in it (in Blitz Basic 2).

I don't think they had issue numbers at that point - what Month was it?

Also, you can try here:
http://www.cu-amiga.co.uk/bissue/index.html

I have a bunch of CUAmiga's 'filed' away and some time off next week so I'll dig them out and have a look through. That was the first mag I ever got published in... albeit on the letters page ;)

No idea - i found a site which said my game was previewed in issue 97. Maybe they got it wrong.

I found 5 from 1997, but I don't see any issue numbers on them or in them - unless this went on the disks/CD - which is possible.

My bad - I need Feb 97 issue.

Mmm, it isn't the floppy disk numbers as they had gone past 100 in 1997.

Right, it is this one then:

I don't seem to have it - somehow I jumped from Jan to Feb 97. I stopped buying them in 97 which is probably why I only have 5. Not sure why I'd skip one - so, I'll hunt about to see if it is mis-filed.

I have Jan, Feb, March, April, May then it jumps again to December.

Edit: not Feb.

I'm confused - you have Feb 97 issue??

If so, you mind checking whats on page 34 for me?

Edit: not Feb.

Oh bugger. :(

[edit again]

Don't suppose you have Amiga Floormat (coincidentally) issue 97 from May 1997?

Hmmm, that cover does not look familiar to me, either. I'll have a root anyway.

wooo hoo, wooo hoo.

He only wants a few quid for it.

Buy it, buy it, buy it.

I hope he didn't go to bed - someone might bid for it.

Bought! Thx!! ;)

Woooh - I was worried then as I noticed someone had just bought it.

Right - bedtime everybody.

:)

I'm REALLY happy to have tracked this down at last, for several reasons; The game that was previewed in CU Amiga was the last Amiga game I ever worked on (thanks Commodore!), and I was coding it in Blitz Basic 2 so its a bit of nostalgia on quite a few levels.

[edit]

w00t!

Just noticed the seller also has CU April 1996 which has a review of one of my games in. Snapped that up, too! :)

So... what games were these?

As Reactor asked. What are those games?

Probably the stuff "GfK" did with Apex Systems:

Alien Presence: Dawn of the Sixth Sun;
World Golf;
International Golf.

Yeah - the Alien Presence preview, and World Golf review.
I'll prolly post scans here when I get 'em.

that'd be good to see. The best I got was a reader game submission of an AMOS game on the cover of amiga format.

cool haha. I stopped coding in BBasic 2 and Devpac 2 in 1995ish I think when Doom came out :-) got a PC and never looked back (well a few times nostalgicaly)

I've got the CU issue, probably the AF too, but... too late!

ooooo!

Mind having a look for the AF issue? Buy it off ya?

It is this one - I don't have it though:

I used to have hundreds of Amiga magazines including the ones I'm asking for now.

I sold them all in 1998 with my A1200, a whopping 6mb of RAM, 120mb (MEGAbytes!) hard drive, colour printer, loads of software - £100.

Remember the buyer ringing me up and asking if the price was a mis-print cos it was so cheap. :/

Quite expensive these magazines were, even then! It says "2 CDs free" but you wouldn't guess they were free, looking at the prize. I had a subscription to Zapp64/Commodore Force, with the tapes stuck to the front. That was great! :) One time the tape had gone to pieces on the journey, it was then replaced. Those were the days...

And I also had a few issues of Commodore Format, which was of course "the enemy". :)

I felt a bit sad when the Commodore Force issues where becoming very thin, talking only about already existing old games, and then disappeared.

Yeah they said the CDs were free, but they put the price of the magazine up by £2 at the same time. How's that free? I was talking with somebody on IRC about C&VG last night and he showed me scans of some covers. 85p! Those WERE the days! None of this "ONLY £5.99" lark!

OK, got it... Alien Presence is indeed on page 33, along with your phone number! It gets most of the page.

I'm really loathe to give up any of my Amiga magazines, but flipping through it while agonising over whether to let it go, I've noticed this one's a bit crap overall, as many AFs were around that time.

I want to scan a couple of pages, which I'll need to do at the weekend (don't have a scanner here), but then I'll let you have it. Maybe email me at the weekend? Any sooner and I'll forget...

I've still got tons of Amiga mags, but earlier ones, stuff like Zero issue one, remember that?

\o/ :D

How much you want for it?

It's OK, I don't need anything for it. Can you email me in, say, two days' time? (Mark's been covering support@bb the last few days as I've been out of action so I won't get it if you email right away.)

No probs! Thanks!! :D

Ahhhh memories, I used to collect just several different Amiga mags from about 1989 to 1996 or so. Had several big stacks of them. I always found them to be a useful resource, back in the Amiga days. They weren't very cheap either, up to 5 pounds each in some cases. Those were the days - trying to rifle through WHSmith's magazine section to see if they even have any in stock any more.

I think I have that magazine too as I used to be an avid subscriber to CU Amiga. There's the irony though there isn't there? See you Amiga :)

Speaking of magazines, does anyone have the latest Edge magazine? Apparentely there's a picture of me in there playing an arcade machine, I think the chances of that being true is non existent surely.

Um, are we supposed to know what you look like? :p

[edit]Just had a flick through EDGE in Smiths and there is a pic of someone playing an arcade machine, at Hull University, I think. He had a pony tail, but that's hardly a unique identifying factor when it comes to programmers. :p

Gfk, wanna email me your address now? (support@bb)

Thanks - sent :)

I've bought this month's Edge and yes that is indeed me. I haven't studied there since 2003, so I've no idea what possessed them to use such an old picture, and one that has nothing really to do with the games programming course. Still, I'm in Edge magazine for no apparent reason, I can't say fairer than that :)

post a piccie!

Hmm, I wonder if anyone has the Amiga Format with Jet Set Willy 3 on the coverdisk (around '95-6) as it was my game! I'd love to see that uploaded onto Aminet or somewhere like it.
