And I wonder how much a video card powerful-enough to run modern-day games at 3840x2160 rez would cost....

I need to see me one of these things, they must be completely gorgeous with a full-resolution display, what with the thing running at 2'584 pixels per *inch*.

Hope these things become pubicly available someday to kill the price on existing 720p/1080p HD setups so I could actually afford one. >.>


Always wondered when HDTV screens would come out that are essentially large-ass PC LCD monitors.
(without all the pixel-spacing and stuff that kills off clarity)


Japanese Broadcaster NHK is developing the successor to HDTV called Ultra High Definition. UHDV offers a resolution of 32 million Pixels compared to HDTV's 2 million pixels.

Picture size of 7,680 by 4320 for a 1.77 aspect ratio (AKA 16x9)

So with 4,000 horizontal lines of resolution it blows away current HD.



When using that resolution we are close to the point that you can't tell the difference between real and television image.. pretty scary. Using 3D rendering and motion tracking you can create 3D images that look absolutely real.

Isn't there a maximum resolution point when a human can no longer tell the difference?

It would be scary, something so crystal clear and flat that it appears like it's being done in the real world-space....

Just need to mimic depth a little better (can TVs control the contrast/brightness levels of individual pixels? That'd likely do the trick with those 1,000,000:1 ratios) and then I think I would throw up see'ing one in motion at 60fps.

Likely is, I'd doubt I'd be able to tell the difference at all from 1280x1024 & 1600x1200 (aside from aspect-ratio & desktop scaling differences) on this 17" TFT monitor if it did support above 1280...

At that point, I take it they'll just make larger sized TVs for larger resolution images, no point in wasting time calculating pixels the human eye wouldn't be able to see anyway without being right up to the screen with a magnifying glass.....

Btw, I find the fact there exists a TV at 7,680 by 4320rez blows my mind slightly, I mean, it's obvious that one would come eventually, but that's just ing overkill.

Wonder how hot that thing would run, and what kind of power it demands...
