site suggestion,Media resources (modified gallery)

I just had a piece of media that I was giving away for free. I had to resort to making a thread about it. What if you added a new section based off the gallery code that let us upload media. The media could be put into categories as well (particles/sprites/backgrounds/etc). Then it is available free for anyone to use in their project or prototype.

Just a suggestion. I bet the majority of the php behind it is already coded for the galelry section so would just me a case of modifying.

Uploading stuff would generate loads of bandwidth and cost BRL money, so that won't happen. Having a section with links to various resources and stuff ppl have might work better but that would soon be like all links pages: full of dead links.

100% agreed. Not sure about the money thing. You can get a webserver with unlimited bandwidth and high rate for a few dozen dollars. I think a generic blitz resources archive is needed. This may of course contain some kind of popularity chart, as seen in the gallery.
All those files that are vanishing these days (make the toolbox tour for example) should be saved!

I'd also suggest we open a sticky "lost+found" thread, where people can make a request for a lost blitz file that some other blitzers may find on their backups the sooner or later.

There is no such thing as unlimited bandwidth. If you ever see someone offering unlimited bandwidth, I can assure you the bandwidth has limits, they are just not telling you those limits. It would be more accurate if they were to say "unspecified bandwidth".

In practice, most services offering unlimited bandwidth are offering much less bandwidth than services who are prepared to specify the limits.

Well they offer unlimited bandwidth for "amateur" users, so they won't charge in gigs of traffic or so. If it turns out the server will eat their entire bandwith they will have to talk and make a new deal. I have however linked screenshots of my host to this page many times and this wasn't a problem so far. When I started there they said they wouldn't support eg. a popular movie downloads page, since this will generate a real big lot of traffic.
I don't think there would be so much traffic on such a blitz archive, because people usually already got these files since they download them when they're released. Additionally, some kind of download brake could be added, eg. a minute to wait until the download starts. Plus, banner ads could be used to make some money, since this would be a seperate service I guess this would be acceptable.
