I think I have no choice but to build this thing. Really, my want for one of these printers has existed forever. Wow!
(It was posted on Slashdot today).

It's one of those 3D printers; but this is actually instructions for building your own :)
Sadly it's still pretty expensive ($2500 give or take a bit if you are crazy enough to, err, not use a real case or some such stupid thing), but the actual gadget doesn't look too convoluted.
I can't think of much to actually do with it, but...
It would be cool to be able to create actual plastic (or chocolate... mmm) copies of 3D models. (Especially from Spore or my own fiddlings...)
The possibilities for growing my hoard of useless crap are mind-boggling!
Anyway, looks like one of those 2 year long projects to do in the basement, later becoming a neighbourhood hero. ...If anyone is looking for one.
Edit:
Hm... Food replication?
I bet you could stick some of that gross spreadable cheese in there, at any rate. (Cheeze whiz, I believe).
Mmm...
One good use: Model trains :)
It would be more expensive than just buying stuff, but not nearly as exciting!
