Eternal Darkness

Has anyone played this game for the Game Cube? I'm picking it up tommorow after work. I keep hearing this is one of the weirdest game ever made, but not in the sense that its a weird game but that weird things actually happen to you in the game. A co-worker of mine said he got to the point that he couldnt play this game no more because he wasn't sure if all the weird stuff was suppose to happen or if the game is mal-functioning. I also keep on hearing about the TV turning off during game play as well as other freaky stuff. But what gets me is that he keeps on hearing these weird sounds even when he's not playing the game....

Now, i'm not too fond of the horror genre or elements of horror in games (i had one hell of a time playing FEAR), but all this weird rumors with the game has got me intrigued.

yeah, that game is made that way, I played it for a bit, never finished it though.

That happens when your sanity meter drops, and no the sounds don't play when you're not playing the game for obvious reasons.
The game is kind of like Resident Evil but with paranormal and Lovecraft like stuff.

I heard the game has a fake "memory card corrupted" screen in it as a means of making players uneasy with the product, even though it's all part of the game.

heh, i heard about that one too. I'm going to assume that sparked a lot of instore returns....

I got it, I played it, I wasn't able to make much progress in it as I played it over a long period of time and only for short stints. I got stuck.

It's a great game. I played through it several times.

Yeah, some weird stuff does happen in it, including a fake error message screen. It may have also faked the TV turning off, I can't remember - it sure can't turn your TV off for real, though. :)

What always used to make me jump was the burning torches hanging on the walls. It'd be dead quite, creeping around, and then a torch would suddenly make a pop/crack sound. Got me every time. :p

Great game, well worth getting, IMO.

hmm...for an adventure game, it sure does encorporates a lot of horror elements.
