Anyone have any of the FPS Creator media packs?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Anyone have any of the FPS Creator media packs?

http://www.fpscreator.com/

There are now 6 media packs.

I am aware of:
It requires your FPS Creator serial number to install. The license does not permit you to use the media in any other game or application

However, I'd buy FPSC just to get my hands on all of the media.

The question is, is all the media in normal formats - .X, .3DS etc - ie can this stuff be used in B3D?

I mean, look at this:
http://www.fpscreator.com/pack3.html

* 7 ceiling pieces
* 6 floor pieces
* 17 room segments
* 14 doors
* 4 gates
* 14 fence parts
* 52 girder pieces
* 13 loading bay pieces
* 46 platforms including staircases
* 128 roof pieces with 32 unique windows

Look at all the animated people in those packs.

Is all this geometry just sitting there waiting to be Larged?

I am highly, highly, highly suspicious (due to TGC's disclaimer) that this media is there for the taking - as long as we don't release it in any way shape or form other than in FPSC.

I like modelpack 1 with some nice swat chars. I think they're in DirecetX8 or 9 .X format, so you may be able to convert them to b3d using uu3d. That said, I'm pretty sure TGC would hunt for you for using their stuff in other projects than in the fps creator. They're not so nice like the guys from oblivion :)

Gee yeah, Puki, sure would be fun to buy media and make a game that you can't release or show screenshots of. I know that's always been my dream.

I live it every day - it's a living dream - I can't stop touching myself.

Hi,

I use FPSC, and no the models and stuff are in a funny format (Obviously you can "hack" them), out of the box the cannot be easyierly used in anything but FPSC. There is a little Dos app they give you that can turn .x into fpsc models, so you could probably hack them back.

@JFK,
If we are talking FPSC packs, obviously the ordinary model packs can be used out of the box in B3d

This was done so that you couldnt use standard Models in FPSC.

I suggest someone buys all of the packs and reports back what is what.

I'll wait here and make sure the thread doesn't fill with water or something.

Actually the license of many of TGC's model packs prevents you using them in B3D. They have to be converted to another format for Blitz to load them and the license does not permit you to chage the format. I posted the contents of an email I received from them a year or two ago confirming as much.

1 25 Royalty free fully textured 3D Vehicle Models
2 Compatible with DarkBASIC Professional and leading 3D modelling applications
3 All vehicles fully animated
4 Easy to use Browser utility to view all objects
5 ".X" format models are ready to load into DarkBASIC Professional
6 Models can be used with other languages like C++
7 Animated Car Source Code (DarkBASIC Professional)

From PAck3 (DarkMatter). Point 6 would allow use in B3d

From PAck3. Point 6 would allow use in B3d

No it wouldn't.

Why not. If Im told that the models can be used in other languages, Then I can use them in other languages. Cant I?

Why not.

I already told you why not above. Because the "using them in other languages like C++" clause is dependant upon you being able to use them without changing the file format. This much is evident from the full license ( which must be on the site somewhere, it always used to be ) and was confirmed when I emailed TGC. Unless they've revised the pack, they don't load into Blitz without changing the format.

From B3D Page

Meshes
Meshes are the workhorse of any 3D engine. Blitz allows you to either create your own meshes from scratch, or load existing meshes in either X, 3DS or B3D format. The B3D format is unique to Blitz3D, and has been designed to provide for all the features of the Blitz3D engine. B3D exporters are available for a wide range of modelling software including 3D Studio, Lightwave and Truespace. Blitz3D meshes provide features such as vertex colors and multiple texture coordinate sets.

And the models are in .x format. So I dont have to change them at all. So I still dont see why they cannot be used in B3d

So I dont have to change them at all.

You're under the impression that there is only one type of x file then are you? Buy them then. You know better than the people who are selling them, and the people who made them, and people who are using .x files all day long. You'll probably still know better when you have them and things don't go as expected.

I dont know better, I was hopeing you would explain why. But if all you want to say is. I know that they wont work so there ner ner, Then I am never going to know am I.
Cant I?
See. I didnt say you could use them, I want to know why you cannot
If they can be loaded in, then if you change the format interanaly, and dont resave them. Would that count as changing the fileformat?

Yes

Ah, wait a minute - you two are debating two licences here.

The Darkmatter stuff is separate to the FPSC stuff.

"H&K's" post about vehicles is the DarkMatter stuff.

At least their latest pack makes it very clear:

This pack is for use with FPS Creator games only. It requires your FPS Creator serial number to install. The license does not permit you to use the media in any application other than FPS Creator.

VERY nicely done low-poly H&Ks BTW in that pack... like the textures. Blitz really needs "game-ready" packs like these too. TGC is doing something right, like getting publicity and offering cheap content. I know that Blitz isn't meant to be "game creator" but that's what most people use it for.

Being a user of FPSC I can tell you, that often these packs are not made by TGC themselves but rather are made by community members. They are then vetted by TGC and if they pass whatever criteria it is that TGC have, are then put on sale. Some may infact have been commisioned by TGC.

BRL could I suppose do this, but there would be little point, because B3D can use models from a lot of sources on the net. For example someone asked yesturday about postwar models and was given a couple of links quite quickly. And Puki has a load of links in his Signiture were you can get models from. What they have done in FPSC is made it difficult to use models straight from the net, by using a funny format. I think there is an exporter for one of the really expensive model programs, but you cannot use (say) milkshape. (this might be wrong, but it wasnt wrong a couple of months ago)

However, TGC do make there products look more proffesional than BRL. They look like a real company when you visit thier sites. There news letter gives a real sence of community. Each of the forums has a different set of moderators, who are obvious and go out of there way to push whatever that forum is for. (I get the impression that they are people who sell secondary products for what ever the forum is they run. Sort of like Grey being the Bmax forum mod, cos of his framework) They have continual competitions, with (well prizes), feedback and explination.
They are Microsoft to BRLs apple. (Make of this what you will)

However. I have never gotten DG SDK to work, and now they have dropped support for VC++ 6, so I never will.
FPSC, is a bit of a joke, with them now recomending duel Core CPUS as the entry for it.
If you write a game with Dark Physics you have to get permission before you can even give it away free.
They are the PC to BRLs Amega. (Again make of this what you will)

In lots of ways I wish that I had started to use Dark Basic before I knew about B3D or pure Basic, because then I would have been happy to join their community. However I didnt

are not made by TGC themselves

H&K,

I know, and the quality varies between packages because of this... but at least TGC promotes them (and gets slice of the income) on the same page as the "programming language". BRL has one tiny link to toolbox on their front page but no links to "Blitz-friendly" content. Ppl do announce Blitz-packages on the forum but those get swamped real fast and the newcomer doesn't have a clue where to find stuff.

But I do agree what you said.

that often these packs are not made by TGC themselves but rather are made by community members

Dont forget a lot will have been done by Simon, TGC's 3D artiste.
