I'm sort of curious, Linux on X360? Anyone?

Now that we all saw what hardware the X360 is, and what that system is capable of. I'm wondering, if I hooked up a keyboard and mouse into the USB ports, slapped an Ubuntu Live CD into the X360, and partitioned the 20 GB HDD on the X360, would I be able to run Linux on there? Seeing that just got me a bit curious, because the X360 is almost like a computer in disguise anyway. Would that void your Xbox Live account, much like the original Xbox at all? I never really did notice, and never tried it. Was anyone successful in running Linux and BMax on an X360 at all, or don't you think that Microsoft's gonna pull another PS3 and become a dual-boot console at all?

Thank you, I'll slap in Dapper Drake, get the notebook unplugged of its external keyboard and mouse, and plug that right into the X360, pop in the CD, turn that huge LCD TV of mine, and let 'er rip. Thanks for pointing that out.

If you go online with evil, insidious modifications like Linux then you'll get banned. Because all of those hardcore retarded chubby American kids aged 6-16 who live on xbox live will get you removed in case you're another one of those horrible people who cheats to get the number beside their name up :O

Its weird being me. I don't know anyone else running Linux in real life, and I also don't know any other programmers or anyone whos into constructive stuff. Everyone in my age group is retarded and is into cellphones/acting retarded/myspace and they all hate computers. Thats why I like forums like this :D Hopefully no hyperactive hardware junkies show up on my course this year...

Anyway, don't go voiding your warranty wedgebob! I fail to see why anyone on these forums would buy a 360 in the first place? Who cares about the "new specs" and blah blah blah... if theres a console out there that requires me to buy all my controllers and all peripherals all over again which offers nothing new, count me out.

Many reasons this wont work and just to mention a few.

1) The Xbox 360 boots from an internal rom memory.
2) The 360 is PowerPC based, you'd need a PowerPC linux distro.
3) The 360 wont allow unsigned software to run.

I could see why someone would buy an XBox 360, but not for running Linux. Running Linux on Microsoft Hardware is just asking for trouble.

Hmm, seems like this is one reason why Microsoft doesn't have it as good as the PS3 when it comes to stuff like this. I guess that if you're willing to spend the extra $200, you are getting your money's worth with running certain Linux-based PC games on it as well as PS3's own games. That is, if the PS3 allows for 3D Acceleration. However, for the same price as a PS3, you could easily have an eMachines or a Compaq to do about the same thing.

Actually $100. Theres also the PS3 "core" version :).
