IE7 Hangs PC

Hiya, I have a friend that installed IE7 when Windows Auto-Update prompted him to. It all installed fine and rebooted but now when he goes into IE it shows Google (maybe from a a cached copy) but totally hangs! I'm wondering how to sort this as you can't "add remove programs on IE".

Obviously we can resinstall windows and all the apps (big pain).

Meanwhile I'll email him Mozilla to get him online again.

But I'm wondering if it's possible to install IE 6 over it (to revert) of if that will make a horrible mess.

The other thing is to do a system restore back to a point before the IE7 install.

I had a very similar problem, but it was with a windows UPDATE so I restored to before and stopped the update 'updating me' for a week or so. Then I allowed Windows update to do its bit hoping they had sorted the isuue, and it was fine.

I have to say IE7 is NOT as satble as it could be I have lots of hang ups with it.

I was able to just uninstall it through the add/remove programs after checking the show 'windows updates' checkbox in it...

But System restore should work too.

If you want to prevent automatic installation of IE7 through the windows updates, you can add a key to your registry, and it will be skipped.
