I swapped my Ex-360 for a Wii.

Yup. MY X360 (premium) is now my EX X360. I swapped it straight for a wii and i couldn't be happier.

I could however, be less sweaty.

This thing makes you exersize like you were running away from a zombie with a chainsaw that could run quickly. Or something.

Anyway, this thing is sweet. I also just found that the "POO-WC" is actually imprinted on the remote, which made me giggle as I thought the pics on the net were fake.

One more thing...

Anyone who manages to break their TV with one of the Wiimotes is a 'tard, the remote doesn't weigh enough to snap the string unless you have a hissyfit and throw your arm so hard it dislocates...!

Mainly been using mine to play Gunstar Heroes & Street Fighter2 (the "classic" SNES version unfortunately), just hasn't been any new game releases that interest me, or haven't been given crap reviews.

Love the whole VirtualConsole thing, once Nintendo gets pumpin' hopefully some more of classic-gaming gems will appear on it.

Probably will use it a fair bit more when I get further into Red Steel (I was expectin this game to be utter crap according to reviews when my bro got me it as an xmas gift, but it can be fairly enjoyable if you overlook stuff), or when my ordered copy of Metal Slug Anthology arrives at my place.

It's a nice system, just lacking more quality titles, even though I personally would not have swapped a 360 for a Wii, even though it's all preference.
(would likely be playing Gears of War 24/7 in co-op mode if I had one)

I'm waiting for the Wii to arrive. I'll give it a rundown then. The kids love the 360 they got for christmas though, I gave it a try and although COD3 looks fine I can't stand playing FPS games on those rotten gamepads.

Congrats on the exchange. As with Genexi2, I've been playing the Virtual Console releases more lately than any particular Wii game. Nothing has really interested me except for maybe Elebits or Trauma Center, but I'm not sure either of those would be my cup of tea.

I was finally able to locate a classic controller yesterday and have been really pleased with it. I think it is the best standard controller ever designed, it's like an updated SNES pad with dual analog.

Super Castlevania IV and Military Madness are two games you should check out when/if you get your Wii online, and WarioWare: Smooth Moves is probably the best Wii game coming in the next month.

My WII was online within 5 mins. I may purchase some of the virtual console games for fun, but I have most of my old games on my PSP now.

Just a shame there isn't any GameCube support with them, I was expecting Nintendo to have had some kind of optional software emulation overlay for using Classic Controller/InternalStorage for the GCN controllers/MemoryCard Slot-A.

The novelty of the Wii has already wore off for me. It was fun over Christmas though, and it'll be out again when the family comes round next...

Rented Rayman and had a blast w/ the g/f. It wasn't all that fun single player, though.

Monkeyball rules, but is too easy. Er, well - it got a lot easier once I realized the monkeys each had different characteristics (the rental didn't come with the instruction booklet and I had been using The Doctor up until World 7 or something, and finally reached a level that was simply impossible to beat with this guy (he wouldn't fly far enough off a ramp.) I spent like an hour and a half trying and was ready to through the Wii itself through the TV when I figured I'd try a different monkey, just for the hell of it. I beat the level 3 minutes later, lol.)

I'm still looking to rent Elebits and Trauma Center. They both look pretty dang fun.

Well, I'm thinking of going Wii60, tbh. I still have the need for a high-definition console (since I do have a 32" LCD HDTV). I was going to choose between either an HD-DVD addon or go with a Wii, and I chose to go with the dual console route. Hey, at least going with the Wii60 combo's not that much more than a PS3, maybe only $50 more, then you got two consoles for a little over the price of Sony's PS3. Not too shabby of a deal.

For some reason I've grown quite intrigued with the PS3. I too am looking at a HD console since we'll be getting a 51" HDTV soon'ish.

While I'm not sold on Blu-Ray (HD-DVD seems to have more and better movies out, currently), the truth is I probably would end up picking up the HD-DVD drive for the 360,and that puts it at $600. At that price, the PS3 offers quite a bit more with it's integrated wi-fi, much larger hard drive, and free online service. Of course, Xbox live looks much more enjoyable than the PS3's rather weak online offering, and probably is worth the money.

I guess I'll just wait until some "must-have", imo of course, exclusives arrive for either system.

Another selling point for the PS3 is that it is much quieter than the 360, which would make a big difference in the enjoyment factor of watching movies.

I like the Wii a bit better than the 360 but I wouldn't have swapped it out. Both of them are great consoles. BTW is anyone else as infatuated with the forcast channel as me?

As for the PS3 stuff ... I'll pass on the PS3 for the forseeable future it just doesn't seem worth $600 considering I already have the other 2 and to upgrade to the HD-DVD drive is only $200 for me instead of $600 for the PS3.

Yes sweaty is right, and out of breath. I was playing Call of Duty 3 yesterday with my son, and I had to grapple with an axis foot soldier. He grabbed my rifle and we went manno a manno.

Hee I have to admit, I was knackered after about 25 seconds of tussling with him. In the end (after about 4 attempts and five minutes of tussling later...) my son duly showed me how to win the hand to hand in about 20 seconds - lol. He's much fitter than I.

Note to self, must get fit this year!

For me, part of the reason was that I never had a HDTV and a few games were unplayable in standard Def- Dead rising was awesome but difficult, probably because I couldn't read the text.

I clocked about 1,000 miles on Test Drive Unlimited and the GF got stuck about half way through GRAW, and then we just left it sitting there for the last 2 or so months.

now a WII is giving me a workout, and I feel better for it this morning if a little achy (Though I didn't spend half as much time on it than the GF who was giving it a good propper test!)

Generally I just think it's a great idea for a system. The problem I see is that the control system could easily be recreated for any last or next (should that be "Current gen" now???) gen system.

I'm much happier for now anyway. I'll have to grab COD2 then by the sounds of it.

While the next gen systems will all no-doubt feature motion-controlled inputs of some sorts (probably more advanced than the Wii's I imagine. Having a controller that could accurately determine where it is in 3D space would be awesome) I don't think retro-fitting one onto a current gen-console is going to do much good. The truth is, for those who want the motion control they'll pick up a Wii - it is cheap and nearly every game will utilize the motion aspects since it's integrated into the core of the system.

While Microsoft could follow suit and make their own motion sensitive controller, I doubt they'd deem the expense worth it. First, there is the initial R&D costs. Then, the question of their ROI arises - would enough developers actually incorporate the motion sensing into their gameplay to make it worthwhile. What would compel gamers to spends hundreds of dollars on new controllers and perhaps a new input module for a select few games when they could instead put that money towards a Wii that will no doubt have countless awesome motion sensitive games.

I don't see it being an issue this gen. Next-gen will be interesting, however.

If the Wii does well even I would bet that motion sensitive controllers for the 360 will come out. If they do I'll be picking one up. (like I say, the graphics are amazing, I just can't stand those gamepad controllers)

Got a 360 premium, Gears of War, Viva Pinata,Oblivion, Splinter Cell DA, PGR3 for XMAS (My Wife is awesome). I use it with my Optoma HD70 projector on a 100" screen and SphereX 5.1 surround audio.

The whole works was under USD$1500 and I have to say it is freakin awesome. Finished Gears of War yesterday on easy (it wasn't :)). Some of the most intense gaming I have ever been through. When I finished I wanted to do it all over again. Rare for me.

My wife has a PSP and my kids have DS lites. I much prefer the DS lites. The PSP is sexy and is without doubt an excellent bit of engineering but the games ...maybe this year something will surprise. We are tired of tired PS2 ports. Nuff said.

I fear the same for the PS3. Cool HW, poor games. I mean really, when will there be any REALLY great games on it? 2 maybe 3 years from now.

The WII is cool. My wife wants one. I think it's gimmicky and won't last 2 years. Been wrong before though.

Anyway, I love the 360. Anyone who doesn't probably has an MS chip on their shoulder. Their loss.

You think there will be a next gen? With the XBox 360 selling worse than the Dreamcast, and the PS3 selling worse than pretty much anything in history, I seriously think Microsoft and Sony need to re-evaluate their business strategy.

Yes, I do - and I think it's going to be influenced heavily by Nintendo's strategy. Make a profit from launch day onward, and appeal to the largest audience possible.

Plumb straight, I'm even thinking of adding on an HD-DVD drive to the X360, for $200, it'll probably blow away the PS3's Blu-Ray in a heartbeat. I mean, not ALL of us have 1080p HDTVs, I, for one, have a weird 770p JVC 32" myself, which probably means that it's a 720p, but the Genessa processor makes it more like 768-770p. Regardless, it should be great for the X360, put it in Theater Pro mode, and watch it do its thing.

May do the same for the Wii. Even tho Theater Pro is a tad on the dark side, the colors and the black levels pop out on you, and the response time is far superior in that video status mode. Should be cool to see...

I'm still lookin to get a Wii, can't seem to get one in time before its sold out...hopefully by next month. I would get the HD-DVD for the 360 but it doesn't seem as appealing right now, at least not until more movies start appearing on it. Not to mention my 360 is doing that locking up crap again...

I am however, still considering getting the PS3 again, whenever they decide to ship more in. Not many good games for it now, but then again there werent many decent games for the PS2 for a while when it first came out either. The PS3 system is very intriging though, but $600 is definately overprice and I could careless about blueray....not sure how thats gonna turn out.

I'm not a big fan of consoles. That said, I do enjoy japanese RPGs, so I would probably buy a PS3 if I was going to get one.

Yeah, but it's hard to sell what they have not been able to build yet. Next year at this time we will have a better picture of demand for the unit.

I'm sure that this generation will end up like the last one. The PS3 will ultimately sell the most units, followed by the XBOX360, with the Wii left far behind and almost abandoned.

Yah, but the PS3 has to do a lot of catching up and it's heavy pricing will definately hinder some of its sales. While I do think the PS3 will ultimately outsell the other consoles, there will not be a large margin of difference between the 360 like it was with the PS2 and Xbox. The thing about Sony is that they have already created the myth in the average consumer's mind that they're the premium for gamming hardware, so even if a lot of people can't seem to get one (either due to pricing or availablity), people would still want one if they can get it. Its kinda like that luxury car effect - you don't really need it, but end up buying it just to have it because its the highest in its prestige (in the consumers mind, of course). And then, if you can't afford a BMW 5 series, you'll just settle for a 3 series :p. So i think most of the PS3 sales will be the $500 model - until they come to their senses and slash the prices some more...

But thats not to say that the PS3 isn't a good system. For the short period that I had it, it did have air of quality about it as compared to my 360 : it was a lot quieter, it never locked up or overheated, the games seemed to load quicker, the games are apparently region-free so you can actually play import stuff from overseas, i could surf the net with it with a USB mouse and keyboard, the interface looked cooler, i was intrigued to install linux on there and load up BMax but didn't get a chance to :(, the blue ray capabilities (well thats not too exciting but yeah, it played it though..:p), and of course the only decent launch game "Resistance" made a really good impression. Although their initial adverisement with the creepy baby doll was a little too weird for me....

And i think this time around, the Wii will not be left "abandon", cause the Game Cube was never quite abandon since Nintendo was still shooting out decent quality titles from their franchise collection up until 2006 for the Cube. They're just barely behind the Xbox in sales(well a few million..). Nintendo has already drove a nitch in the market with the Wii, and their constant advertising and family appeal will definately drive the sales pace at least until towards the end of next year. Plus it almost appears that the Wii has attracted people who don't even play games also. So, this time around, I think the console sales will be more close than last generation.

That happens to be true, the war usually goes to Microsoft vs. Sony, while Nintendo doesn't want anything to do with that war. All Nintendo wants to do is develop a GAME console, that's all, not a full-blown living room hub with all sorts of bells and whistles that noone's gonna use that much. Now Nintendo knows how to do things right, as they have since the past quarter of a century.

Of course, Microsoft and Sony are waging about HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray, even tho Microsoft had to team up with Toshiba for the X360, and HD-DVD, IIRC. This would lead me to believe that MS may have to consider that if you add on the X360's HD-DVD drive, you'd be looking at the same total price as Sony's BETTER PS3, while the X360 is comparable to the lower-end PS3 after the fact, and you're spending $100 more for that same configuration, if you think about it.

Then again, if HD-DVD was supposed to be the cheaper, yet better format, then why would the PS3 be $100 less for that same configuration, or the same price with a larger hard drive, about 3x the size? That confuses the wazoo outta so many gamers' heads.

It's likely an appeal for people who already own a 360.

I mean, if think about it, if you already own a 360 and wanted to watch HD movies, would you go out and buy a stand-alone HD-DVD player for who-knows-how-much? Or buy the external player for your gaming system for roughly a third of the price?

It's either that or turn BluRay and grab a $1k player, or the $600 PS3 model.


Me, I personally aint a fan of the nex-gen formats yet, I mean sure, DVDs look crap on my LCD monitor since all the compression/artifacts are obvious, but I'm still running a 21" SDTV downstairs as the main movie-playing device, and those CRT TVs can hide anything in terms of bad picture quality.

I hate console clutter, so I'd be inclined to go with the smallest wireless console. Unfortunately none of the Wii's games appeal to me in the slightest.

Something that would be cool, would be fight night 3 with proper wimote control. Unfortunately I think the wii will be lacking in the graphics department, not that I consider them terrible, just not great.

Actually, the $500 model also plays blue ray (heheh, its not like you're really saving a lot of money anyways) and from what I hear, the PS3 actually loads the movie faster than some of those $1k players. But HD-DVD and Blue Ray looks the same to me anyways....i'd just wait and see which one ends up on top...(everyone says HD-DVD, but both appear to be holding strong). And I hate how only certains movies would come out in only either blue ray or HD-DVD.....

That is the truth, however, when playing Zelda TP, you quickly forget about graphics, the gameplay hugely compensates. Even when playing Wii Sports, you dont find yourself cursing the graphics at all.
