Yippee - there will be a GTA 4

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Yippee - there will be a GTA 4

I was just Larging about the internet - as I am currently very terribly bored.

Anyway, I found this:
http://www.rockstargames.com/grandtheftauto4/

The sad new is the release date is 16th Oct 2007.

The above site doesn't say anthing about the game - this is were you lot come into this. I want each and every one of you to scour the internet for information on GTA 4 and report back in this thread.

I'll wait here and keep watch.

Hurrah, I am the first little soldier back with info:

This isn't exactly news. Play.com have been taking preorders for the game for months.

oh oh and will it be exactly the same as gta 1-3?

It'd be an interesting vote of confidence in retro gaming if it's exactly like either 1 or 2.

It will be PS3/Xbox360 exclusive I believe. Other than that not a lot of -real- information is known, being that Rockstar hasn't said much.

I can say with 100% certainty they will not be going retro ;]

Yes, so I've read. I was surprised that it wasn't going to be on Wii too, but I guess if Splinter Cell 4 looks worse on Wii than it does on XBox ( NOT 360! ) according to Gamespot et al, then it's probably just not doable on Wii.

Well, I'd expect GTA 4 to look about as good as Saint's Row if not better. I mean, Saint's Row is the only game as far as a high-definition game in that genre right now. Backwards compatibility with the original Xbox GTA games happen to be a pain in the butt...

Yeah, those and many other games, including most of the ones I'd like to play. I love how Sony were taking a battering because they had a handful of games that might not run on PS3, while Microsoft have barely scratched the surface of fixing their games to work after well over a year. And what have they done lately? Almost nothing. They added another ten games or something this month and that's all they've added in ages.

The Wii got a half-assed port of the PS2/GameCube version of Double Agent, which was why it wasn't graphically on par with the Last-Box (I should trademark that coin-phrase >.>) version.
(Ubisoft half-assed the majority of their Wii ports so far actually, I can see why though, it's easy money for them)

Besides, we already know the Wii is capable of the GTA series, just not at the holy-wtf graphically levels we've come to expect from the 360/PS3.
(GTA3 through San Andreas was on the PS2 anyway, and that was the weakest of the 3 systems of last generation)

Regarding the actual GTA4 game, don't know much that hasn't been contributed here aside from the fact I recall that it's being built off the same engine they created for that Table Tennis game of theirs. Wasn't it's theme supposed to be based around a European location this time around?
(London, or something like that)

[EDIT] GameSpot has some older news regarding the title, still can't find the place where I read about the European location though.

I don't see how that's possible when GTA3 was vastly different to GTA 1 and 2.

Yes well that's quite obvious to me and you, but by judging from his posts in other threads, his opinions never have much credibility anyway.

There goes my interest in it. Good thing GTA San Andreas is such a good game then. Wonder if it works on Vista.

IIRC, besides GTA3 - San Andreas being on the PS2, they also saw ports to both Win XP and original Xbox, and the PC versions always seem to be the easiest to play. Perhaps because it's too easy to cheat at that way.

They're going around saying it's going to be a "photo realistic city", hmmm, believe that when I see it.

It's likely to be multiplayer, as they've done this with the PSP versions and it's works very well.

It's confirmed for PS3 and XBox 360, probably see a PC version come out later.

Highly innaccurate rumour-mongering. Because the original GTA 1 release had three districts : Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas, then an 'expansion pack' was released based on London. We've seen LC, VC and SA in the GTA3 series so some people are assuming the next one is London again. However, Rockstar (then DMA) didn't actually work on London (in any major way, there were some minor engine improvements) - it was made by TakeTwo and the nets' modding scene.

Wonder if it works on Vista.

Works perfectly fine. HOWEVER! Hehehe... I couldn't for the life of me find where it was storing the saved games. I looked -everywhere-. After forcing GTA to store the games in a specific location using a registry hack (which any good GTA:SA crack readme file will tell you about) I could find them again.

Not sure if it means anything now, but San Andreas saves data in the My Documents folder by default, does Vista go out of its' way to prevent programs saving there or something?
(which I actually wouldn't mind since EA and the likes apparently want to clog up *my* Documents folder with folders of seperate games all over the place....whatever happened to storing all your products under an "EA Games" folder rather than one per product?)

Like I said, I looked everywhere. The game saves were saving though, I could reload them no probs. Just buggerred if I could find where they were...
