Funny isn't it?! :O)

Quake 2 has never looked so bad...

.

Yep. At least OSX (Tiger) is pretty fast compared to XP. How about Vista?

I'm surprised people still use their Amigas. I totally loved mine back in the days - I still have 3 Amigas, but I never use them.

Can't see why someone would use it compared to a modern PC.

Maybe if you just want just to surf with a silent system (not a single fan) without any virus problems? If i still had my 68040 i would try this. The A1000 sadly is too slow for all the system stuff in my opinion, if you got used to a pc. Ahhh what glory days...

What's an Amiga?

The news was post on 10th April, which was ages ago. Isn't Amiga OS 5 on the way?

How many Atari Engineers does it take to make an Amiga?

@Game Boy
But not about that the final update is available...24.12.2006

@Zenith

Just one. And his dog.

What's the fuss?

Amiga was great two decades ago, but at this point in time... "Too little, too late" kind of sums it up.

Nah, if they released an amiga using todays technology to update the custom ships...i'd buy one.

AmigaOS4? You've got to be kidding me.

I wonder what they'll waste time on next? ApricotOS2? SamCoupeOS-Xtreme? BeBoxOSUltra?

Hey i had a BeBox for some time! :O) Great machine and OS with the lack of software support.

Next time you go for a dump - strain really, really hard and think of a new, modern amiga. This - I'm assured by Zenton 'lord of the universe', is how it is possible to control the outcome of the future. You must achieve the oneness of 'red-face' and 'white shooting stars before the eyes' before the space time continuim can be interfaced directly through barely conscious thought. Most people do not know this technique..which is why things generally remain so sh*t.
I tested this method, but foolishly thought about bulbous, baggy, bum grapes I might be giving myself (I just couldn't get the images out of my mind)...I am now agonizing and irrefutable proof of the power of bowel-induced 'red-faced oneness'

Zenton tells me that laughing directly in my face is the highest honour on his home planet.

Nope. AmigaOS 5 is already well under development.

I loved the Amiga and only begrudgingly got a PC when it was clear the machine was dead. Things have moved on so far now it's pointless going back. All we need now is a decent OS for the PC.

I'm a bit out of the loop - is it even possible to buy new Amiga hardware to run these OSs? I thought that the Amiga was dead and gone. Surely no-one makes them anymore?

Yep, they run on PowerPC G4 hardware.

it would be cool if they would make it work on off the shelf x86 hardware..

Here's something from the normal classic Amiga:

Clicking around and surveying the current Amiga scene is depressing as hell. I believe I prefer to think of the Mac Mini as the 'new Amiga'.

Yes. That'll do.

Yeah, as soon as they put in a real gfx card.

Isn't the Mac little more than a rebranded, over-expensive PC with a different OS these days? If so, then, if the PC is the new Mac and the Mac is the new Amiga, couldn't it be said that the PC is the new Amiga? ;)

Amiga rulez forever!

If by "Amiga" you mean "Spectrum", then I agree. ;)

Maybe, but if we keep on like this we're only going to end up with the new Amiga being the 'new Amiga'. And nobody wants that.

What we really need is a new cpu, x86 is trash. ARM wins!

Amen, Flameduck. :)

Odd that no one mentioned AROS yet. Or maybe not. It's still on the horizon, but looking in good shape given the slow nature of rewriting the Amiga OS from scratch for contemporary PC hardware, and as a freebie into the bargain.

They just need a few more C coders who actually really can to step forward and maybe even get paid for writing a few modules here and there. It's been a steep hill and that dedicated bunch have almost pulled it off in a surprising short time, given the size of the task.

Not linux hosted anymore either, it's gone native, so it's a bit more of a Player now. There's very little that can stop it actually happening too. Aminet is also now stretching it's sinews after a long hibernation as well.

I've been quietly watching this with much interest for a couple of years or so. It is getting to be tantalisingly tangible.

@Zenith
Well, at least my A1000 was signed by more than just Jay Miner and his dog, so i still don't get it.

Hmmm I may plop that on an older G4 we got just to see whats widget...

I still have my 1200 with a whole 10MBytes of RAM, not that it sees the light of day much though. I to am one of those who begrudgingly converted to PC when it became obvious the Miggy was dead.

twas a clever joke I thought.. :D
ack.. 2 months ago?! sorry :<

If anyone's interested, I'm about to sell my old A1200 (with HD + RAM exp) on ebay in the next couple of weeks. Original copies of BlitzBasic2 and AMOS too...
