will BlitzResearch give the next step?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/will BlitzResearch give the next step?

i would like BlitzResearch give a next step on the market, providing good MapEditor (with collision system adding polygon collision system) additional, provide more tools to compete with Torque Game Builder i think that is the real competitor for Bmax but GarageGames wins in newcomer space because of that but i am sure most of people like would like to have the same easy tools but with the BlitzMax code not TorqueScript.

i can find many people creating there own tileEditor, mapEditors, collisionSystem, but i think if BlitzResearch could provide it it will certaintly sell a lot more.

is there any place where i can learn news for the enxt year or plans you have improving BlizResearch products?

btw, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I think BRL will be 100% focusing on the bmax 3D module, for the time being, mate.

There's quite a few good, 3rd party stuff out there to cover the stuff you mention, so there's not much point for BRL to tackle that stuff, TBH.

...and Merry Christmas! :)

I'd personally hate to see BRL waste time writing map editors and such.

Other people's tools either don't do what you need them to do, or are buried under a heap of features you'll never ever need.

There are a hundred ways one can make a 2d map-editor, these are usually project-related tools. And if they're not project related they're prolly crammed with generic features. The more crammed a project is, the bigger the chance that it won't work very nicely. Not to mention that a mouse-oriented programmer prolly sees no point in supporting a keyboard, not to mention that a programmer who hasn't done a number of tile-based games prolly doesn't know what the real requirements are, aside from the normal map-editing functionality. Just to give you the example: I see a number of tile editors pass by on the forums, and I've tried them all, and imho they all suck.. :P Yes, even the commercial ones.

So: let each programmer make his own tile-editor. If you are skilled enough to do a major tile-based game, then an optimized tile editor for that game is a cookie to make.

I agree with GFK and CS_TBL. It would be a huge waste of time for BRL to write tools like this.

I agree with Big10P too :P

Er, I think I implied that, too. :/

The page opened with GFK and CS_TBL's posts in view and your reply must have just been off the top of the screen. Sorry :P

heh, just kiddin'.

I'm a bit 'merry'. :)

Yepper! I am pretty sure that some in the community are working on, or HAVE those sort of tools! I hope. Personally I am hoping for some more remote SQL functions for BMax before I dive in and learn it.

double post... sorry

Are you suggesting that we turn BlitzPlus/Blitz3D/BlitzMax into Game Maker?

I mean to useify it to createify applications thereby makeifying moola!

lol, no not you, i was asking matthew_30. Actually, thats not bad Rook.

..far as I can see trough this bootle of Heineken, BRL will not move a finger to make any additional tool for ya buddy..vivaaa..

.

I'd much rather an offical MaxGUI visual designer.

What's wrong with Torque Game Builder if you want those features?

if ya want a game maker write one, thats the beauty of programming languages :)

Well, Torque did a nice one and jacked their price up by 50 bucks. Woot...now my Torque 1.4 is outdated. >:(

Actually I have utilized the BlitzUI formbuilder to generate forms then transposed the coordinates to the gadgets I wanted in other designers... a coordinate is a coordinate innit?

Hi,

Ok, I had a quick look at this TorqueX thing, but it seems pretty weird...

What's with the weird full screen/strange res editor? It appears to be a 'real' windows app running in a funky res - yet the system produces windowed mode games?

You need MS's Game Studio Express to create a project? How does the OS X version work then?

Do you need to keep flipping between Game Studio and the editor to modify code?

Also you don't seem to be allowed to read docs in the editor, yet it dies if you alt-tab out - or even select help/docs?

What exactly would you like to see BRL duplicating here...?

Ok, being a bit sarcastic - I do actually love the idea of game creators, but am just yet to see one that has really rocked my world.

Game creators are 'cloning machine': every user - at the end - make the same things, and this is a waste of resources. It's a better choice to offer a powerful programming language (as Bmax is) with its modular way to expand/adapt ifself, and let the final user-programmer to create its own editor: it's more satisfactory.

There is no "better." It depends on the situation, really. If you wanted to make a game that fell within the capabilities of RPG maker, and *finishing the game* was your goal, using anything but RPG maker (or a similar and equally as powerful tool) would not be the "better" choice - as it would take more time and more effort to reach that same goal.

Thats because you haven't coded one yet! Just keep doing what yer doing!!! If one pops out then we can all be amazed!
