Where can I get it? I heard it was coming out today but was just in the Wii shop and saw no mention. I also heard that C64 games may be coming to the virtual console :)

Right. That's it. I'm never leaving the house again.

The free beta is on the the page that use to say check back soon. At least in this hemisphere it is...

Is it fun browsing without windows?

man, this is sweet! It is a lot faster than I expected and the zooming is nice. Off to play some web games «○ό☆□ώ»

Hey, this is from the Wii too
Very cool

The soccer ball game on Albino Blacksheep is fun, my record is 7.

Also try this, its a multiplayer flash game (can you tell me if it works?)

And also can you see if you can get msn on your wii?

Sounds like you guys are re-inventing the wheel somewhat.

Btw I'm posting this from the Pub - lot more interesting than sitting at home playing with my Wii :P

So....what sort of keyboard do you hook up to a wii? Or are
you guys using that new Nintendo MindReader attachment?

It's probably an on screen keyboard where you pick the letter with the wiimote.

It'd be cool if there was some hand-recognition software available such that you could hold the A button and use the pointer facility to 'draw' on the screen.

Indie ,

yeah maybe but if you want a Wii from where you are, you'll have to go to the gents! Lol!

Anyone with a Wii does this link work please?

IPete2.

Yeah, tested it at about 4 this morning (hoorar for insomnia!) and it worked fine, a tad on the slow side, but playable.

I was gonna post in the slippy feet thread at the time, but I couldn't be arsed. ;o)

That's just silly, noone EVER wants a Wii or a p00 for that matter. I go to the gents to get rid of them.

Didn't see that coming.

I should hope not, toilets are private places after all.

Yan.

Cheers m8! Thats cheered me up a lot actually!

Stupid swedish distributor and stupid swedish postal service!
My Wii is late! It should have arrived two days ago! But it showed up today, and I'm not at home at the moment so I have to wait until after christmas to play. :(

Sounds like you guys are re-inventing the wheel somewhat.

Have to agree. What's the point here besides "oooh shiny, new!"

.

YES!

Made my Wii ignore posts from grumpy old men who'd like nothing better than a law that makes accesing the Internet from anythin but a IBM Intel PC 486 illegal. O_o :D ÜBER!

Don't get all defensive. It's a legit question. It's slower than browing on a PC, there's no keyboard, and without an HDTV most sites will be unreadable. What's the appeal?

Would an HDTV even help? I thought the Wii only did 480p max.

I can see myself juggling that stupid soccer ball in ad breaks for many weeks to come. Forget about reading / learning things on the interweb, theres fun to be had in them there hills.

Would an HDTV even help?
No. Most websites are utter crap on a HDTV. Too much empty space, and too small letters.

The appeal for me is the fact when I get up in the morning before heading off to school/work (whenever I get called in, <3 part-time), it takes only 20'ish seconds to get my Wii booted-up/logged in to the Internet Channel where I can get a quick check-up of the sites listed in my favourites, rather then the 5min some time of my life wasted booting my PC up just to open Firefox.

It is readable on a standard crappy 480i TV, there's a zoom-in mode which essentially makes the webpage appear as if you were viewing it on a 640x480 rez (which the TV is in retrospect), where-as the zoom-out appears to emulate the page size on a 1024x768 display, which I mainly use for scrolling about/image viewing.

No USB keyboard support is my largest complaint about it, hoping the full version has support for it, otherwise it'll just be a "get all my favourites on the thing for quick check-ups" browser.

Gotta say though, it sure beats the $&@(ing crap out of surfing the web on the PSP.

Just hope the full version seriously does add a lot more features, as this trial appears fairly nice and stable at the moment.

You can hit the '2' button to put the page in an even easier to read mode.

I'd be damned if I'd make extensive use of that mode considering how slow the page scrolls at its' fastest speed.

Speaking of which, I was surprised the scrolling is kind of "clunky", was really expecting the page to glide around at graceful speeds like you can in the Mii Creator....

I'm trying to find some javascript event docs, can't seem to fire a double click and the magic of keydown working with the dpad is not forthcoming. A pointer based racing game I suppose is a possibility.

The web will look better on the wii / tv over time, a little bit of css and i can imagine sites will start presenting couch friendly layout, nice low word count pages fixed to the screen size so it's all point and click. Scrolling sucks, especially if someone else is in control of the remote.

OK, found some keydowns:
	var WII_MINUS=170
	var WII_B=171
	var WII_PLUS=174
	var WII_UP=175
	var WII_DOWN=176
	var WII_RIGHT=177
	var WII_LEFT=178

Unfortunately b button stuffs up dpad as this little test shows, steer with dpad, trying to use b button instead of up for thrust just confuses it. Opera's DHTML drawing speed is unfortunately as sad as it is on PC:

I doubt it. Nobody cares because appearently you're not in the target audience.
