to WoW or not to WoW

should I play this or not?

I'm playing conqueronline right now which is pretty good but a bit small, but free.

It's quite addictive.

Depends if you like the genre / and / or the game.

Until I'm rich and don't have to work I dare not play WoW or Oblivion.

Well. WoW is kinda an slow, painstaking drain of money. While Oblivion (oh, how i love it!) is a quick flash! bang! Hey Where's my money? What's this awesome super-computer doing here?!

MMORPG's are getting better, If you dont want to pay for WoW then try its younger brother, RuneScape (www.runescape.com or www.miniclip.com)

No word yet, unfortunately. :( I've been following it and participating in design discussions on the forums there for well over a year, and despite being around so long I know about as much as you as to when it'll be out. They're looking at a late 2007 release, but then it was originally supposed to be out already, and yet there's not even been mention of beta yet. Bah. Nothing new to see a development schedule slip though.

Oh, and take my opinion of WoW with a grain of salt, as I've never played it. I just know a few people who do though and overall the community (more than any other aspect) is what is preventing me from playing it. While it's definitely an MMO, I don't know if the RPG bit fits at all.

It depends entirely on how much value you place on your time.

well I think I spend too much time on conqeronline www.conqueronline.com already, any more than an hour at a time and I feel like I'm wasting my time, so it's probably a big no to WoW

Yeah, most MMOs of the subscription-type demand at least 2-3 hours minimum of a playing session to really get anything/anywhere out of it.

I have a very strict NO-Pay-for-Play Policy. I will buy-the-box or lifetime-subscription-pay-once, but pfp just doesn't make sense. Games are a big enough waste of my life as it is.

Think of all the time people spent playing Everquest...and then Everquest 2 came out. Or any once-popular game, that no one plays anymore or is just terribly outdated. So, in the end when WoW finally tanks, or a better game comes around what will you be left with? The comforting thought that you were the best level 100 Orc Shaman? Tch...Tch...

Right now, I'm playing Battlefield 2142 which is very awesome and features some pretty cool character customizations, upgrades, awards, etc. and is of course, a buy the box game.

By the Way: I'm baaaaaaaaack! From a very long hiatus.
I'm eager to get programming again. Sniff...Well...I see a few names I recognize...Genexi...Grey Alien...I'm sure there are others.

That's why I've only ever seriously played Gemstone 4 - an old-school MUD that's been kicking for almost 20 years now. A good MUD is timeless.

I remember some Intros called WorldofWonders Hahahahaahhhh...

Heh...I used to play a MUD called Arcane Nites aka Nitemare. I had an ubber half-elf mage/ninja with an ungodly amount of money but, unfortunately after 6 months of not playing (during a deployment) they wiped my character. Alas no more.

OMG!!!! I just found a public trial for this, so to settle my interest properly I've downloaded it and am trying to play it.
It was a several gig download, which then installed into about 4.5gigs of hard disk space, then it downloaded a 490mb patch, now it's just started downloading a second 490meg patch. This is insane! Nevermind, maybe I'll have it working by the time the 10 day trial runs out, it's just a shame it takes one of those days to install the damn thing.

WOW is cool. I'd prefer a pay-once-then-you-can-play-forever kind of game but it's still a great game.

If I could afford (financially and time-wise) one of these games, I might just go for City of Heroes. Even though it's not pay-once-then-you-can-play-forever, you don't lose your abilities if you lose your "equipment," which I like.

It saddens me that so many peoples idea of a good MMORPG is WoW, because now it is harder than ever for a commercial MMO in development to break away from the mold.

I can tell you this.

PLAY WOW !!
1) you can play in window mode and still code and to home work.
2) Wow grafix are realy Saad. So saad. that it dosent take all your cpu.
3) Oblivion is far more fun to play. and only works on fullscreen.

Okay, I've bought it in the end. Had to get the UK version as I was playing the trial of the US version. So I've got to start a new character as I've been informed I can't transfer. Also the game client is different for europe, so I'm having to reinstall the game off the discs that come with it when I bought it in the shop today.

It's five and a half hours after I started installing it and I'm ready to top myself. If any of you guys ever make a game that takes over five hours to install and patch it's self, I'll hunt you down.....

Took about one hour to install and patch here, never use their auto downloader it's too slow!
there's several gaming sites that offer the patches in sequence for download. use that!

It is painful to install i admit.. now i backup the directory to my usb drive just incase my main drive fails.

OMG!!!!! They've had a major problem and now all the servers are FUBAR'ed, this is just bloody typical!

Hope you only got one patch to deal with.

From my bros retail copy had me download TWO 500mb patches.

Grabbed me one of them $1.99 14-day trial DVD discs which is hopefully more up to date, but regardless, I just grabbed it so I didn't have to bother with the long multi-disc installation when I get my own copy sometime.

it's a shame there's no DVD like most other games, 5 cd's is a bit excessive
