Do you like my Munky?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Do you like my Munky?

I'm experimenting with styles for the Pjio relaunch. I'm probably dropping the Pjio name in favour of something that actually has something to do with creation/craft (hence the url - kinda).

http://www.pjio.com/index.php

Oooh Munky.

munky looks cool. good style. would probably move the tail a bit (looks like his Wii)

pink and black and pale yellow. Cool, CraftyMunky? Pjio seemed pretty awesome to me though.

LMAO - You ever seen a "wii" like that :D

I prefer Pjio - it's short and memorable. CraftyMunky feels a bit "flabby" to me.

Maybe Pjio can be the name of the 'lil Monkey.

Pjio looked better imo. I think it's a mistake to give up on pjio so soon. It takes time for people to actually finish stuff to upload, so a slow start is to be expected.

personally, I never got the "pjio" name, so "craftymunky" seems lika an improvement to me... :p

I prefer the pjio name aswell. Once again an annoying website that only uses 1/4th of the screen realestate.

Also, once again text that is too small to read unless sitting right in front of the screen.

pjio is unpronouncable. craftymunky is better even if munky is not how people are going to try the URL the first time.

Most people are going to land here (http://www.formoda.com/craftymonkey.html) and wonder why there aren't any games.

Could call it "puki" - I mean, half the world Googles me and it is pretty close to the original.

"pjio" could easily be "puki".

In fact, it is so close to being me it is virtually stalking infringement containment sub catagory B.

how 'bout
"Pukijio the well endowed munky"

I just like your designs. and interfaces. I can play with them forever... I didn't notice all the text was gibberish for about 10 min.

Well the site has not been given up on, I just think that maybe the name was a mistake. It's funny how a lot of people moaned about the name and now they moan that I might change it :)

You did not see that this is a mock-up page?

Marcy already agreed to redirect traffic if we needed it.

You're damned if you do, and you're damned if you don't. People will moan anyway cos it makes them feel they know something. I've learned to take feedback from a handful of trusted people and ignore the rest. ;)

Good luck with it either way. I'll be uploading games (hopefully) in the near future.

You need to lower your screen resolution and/or sit closer to your monitor if so many sites are bothering you this much.

I have to agree with GfK, I didnt see any prob with the site, and the site looks great. Good job Indiepath. :)

That's band aiding the issue without addressing the cause.

I'm not changing my screen resolution for two websites. I'll take my custom elsewhere.

I'm pretty sure you won't be missed.

What custom are we talking about? Is it from your native country?

Do you have specific examples of websites that do have the text size which suits your preference?

*edit*

I liked the pjio website too :)

I'm pretty sure you won't be missed.
Once again, you're entitled to your ignorant ill-informed opinion.

This one for instance.

*almost* ready for re-launch : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v83oB1q0io0

I think the pink / dark grey is a good mix, but there is a bit too much pink at the top.
Of course, that would be the old Pjio banner's fault, so I'll wait and see :)

I'm not sure about the monkey guy, though. I like the one in the background of the banner, but the colourful one in the foreground looks really tiny, thus out of place and distracting. It also does not sit well right on top of that other monkey.
The little monkey is not a bad idea, so perhaps it would look good in different places, such as beside blocks of text that need attention?
As for the banner, it suits my very minimalist tastes without the monkey; nice and simple, not distracting and at the same time a fine way to present the site that isn't too redundant.

Those links at the bottom are good, but I think they need to be smaller and the background should be a different colour. Nothing against brown (brown is great!) but it doesn't appear anywhere else so looks rather unsymmetrical. The links are also too big; they are bigger than the links at the top! Kind of confusing to any nitwits that may find their way there.

What's with the 100% width for the footer but for nothing else?
If it gets 100% width, it had better have enough for everyone!
Er... I can't quite picture how it would look, but have you tried giving the banner full width even with fixed width content? (Though I agree with FlameDuck, stretchy width looks possible in this one).

The search box: Text does not disappear when it is clicked on; it is just highlighted. The expected behaviour for search boxes these days is to have greyed out text at first which disappears when they are clicked on. The even more fancy ones will have that grey text reappear if the text box loses focus and still has nothing in it. It's kind of tricky to do, but possible with Javascript and it's very cool!
To get the grey text, just swap the style for the text box and voila!

As for the name... it's kind of a problem that www.craftymonkey.com is already used. Perhaps a thesaurus will reveal a miracle word that isn't taken? The term "munky" has never pleased me, but I suppose I'll let you get away with it.

Edit:
Here a quick list of synonyms:
monkey - one who is playfully mischievous
scamp, imp, rapscallion, rascal, scalawag, scallywag
child, kid, minor, nipper, tiddler, youngster, tike, tyke, shaver, small fry, nestling, fry - a young person of either sex; "she writes books for children"; "they're just kids"; "`tiddler' is a British term for youngsters"
brat, holy terror, little terror, terror - a very troublesome child

crafty - marked by skill in deception; "cunning men often pass for wise"; "deep political machinations"; "a foxy scheme"; "a slick evasive answer"; "sly as a fox"; "tricky Dik"; "a wily old attorney"
foxy, guileful, knavish, sly, tricksy, wily, cunning, dodgy, tricky, slick
artful - marked by skill in achieving a desired end especially with cunning or craft; "the artful dodger"; "an artful choice of metaphors"
Come to think of it, there aren't many choices there...

The site will be www.pjio.com and will be pointed to by :

"pjio" is now the name of the monkey :O

Oh and I've updated the link at the top of this page - maybe that's better for you:)

Ah, that's clever :)

I was just thinking the ultimate solution is multiple entry points, and there it is!

Oh, and Puki: Your trends have been going down lately.

Edit:
Oooh, I really like the way that games pop up now! Your web site makes some great use of Javascript to achieve what all those other pansies would use Flash for :)
It's kind of weird that it makes it impossible to switch tabs in Firefox once the game is playing, though. Is that avoidable?
The login system is also really nicely done, where failure just pops up an alert box instead of a whole other page.

I just played Ultimate Snowdown and I'm still really loving this YouTube of video games :)
A random thought bounced into my head: These tend to be little games, and so they tend to have high score systems. How about host a high score service on Pjio that is accessible through a DLL? Could be made more fancy in a variety of ways (perhaps a function passed to Javascript that automatically writes the high score using the logged in user's username).
Then the game pages can have high scores listed somewhere if they are available, which would be very cool!

I also see that you have played with the brown footer. You have fixed almost everything about it that bothered me, including its height. ( Except now it makes the page too tall! CSS is annoying :( ).

How about host a high score service on Pjio that is accessible through a DLL?

Yes but using the new Scripting functions of the plugin it is possible for the score to be posted via Ajax thus updating the page in realtime as the game is being played :) The site uses server side sessions so I always know who is doing what and when and where data streams come from - I don't need to expose these to the client thus preventing cheating etc..etc..

Bug on your Signup page:

If I choose not to have a profile image, it will not let me sign up with the following error: "! Upload images of JPEG format only"
(Excellent signup page, though! I like the benefits listed on the side; it doesn't feel like a waste of time that way).
Also, limiting to .jpg is a bit steep. What about gifs and pngs?

Take this for what little is worth, but I looked at index.php and I would like to see that munky swing from side to side whenever you hit it with your mouse cursor. =]

YEs I should put a default image and maybe I should parse different image types :)

Maybe when I start the polishing :)

The monkey icon has nipples and a dark groin area plus urotsukidoji tenticles. It also has a vacant creepy expression.

I think it is not what you want. The idea does not match the execution.

What I said might be funny, but it is not quite there, you need more tries at it.
