.NEt/DX10 doen't make your game more fun...

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/.NEt/DX10 doen't make your game more fun...

I'm playing some doujin games my friends suggested, and most of them are fun.

And I have to re-think
1.A much higher level graphics API make a casual game look/feel better?
2..NET make your game more audience?

Those who want these powerful technologies can get VS2005 and latest SDK easily. Although I didn't see a casual/retro/doujin gam with such great requirements, but I did see many good game was produced using some older tools like RPG Maker or something.

My company still using DX8.1 as basic API, because we're making MMORPG, and want ppl to play it with least hassle, we can absolutely make a game that require DX10 and .NET2/3, but that will lead to sale drop, so there's no reason to do this yet.

Those who has a super team and huge resource/money to make a big game can move on......

Most ppl think "Newest is best", but I'm focusing to really make a working thing tho...this topic may lead to flame wars, but that's what I think.

Well, you kind of stated the obvious.

Fun is playability.

Right, that's you lot lessoned in fun.

I wish to add that sometimes, many companies/people loose a lot of time (and money) to realize great looking games (wonderful graphics) but the "core" (story, puzzles, suspance, etc...) are almost absent!

I wish more "strong" games (about the story, the scheme, etc...) even if the graphics is not similar to the reality.

Furthermore, I cannot spend so many money to buy, every six months, a huge video card (and a new PC) just to play with a new game :-(

Most ppl think "Newest is best", but I'm focusing to really make a working thing tho..

Thats the thing though, .net really makes development easier and less of a chore from a programming perspective. How is that bad?

Our company made a little survey/test and 85% users don't have/like .NET installed on their system.

That's a reason I re-think from the perspect from a USER not a developer.

I regularly visit a BBS in http://bbs.rpgchina.com/ , I got some idea and inspiration from there, affect the idea I think for game developent.

Our company made a little survey/test and 85% users don't have/like .NET installed on their system.

In order for that sentence to tell me anything at all, I need to know how large the survey was and who your company is.

Exact region is China, we get 45000 survey from ShanHai/TenChin/BeiJin/ChunChin, the 4 major city, the accuracy is +- 3%, due to the NDA I can only tells you these. If you want more detail, please send a mail or PM.

This survey cofirms our way of development and lead to cancallation of moving to DX9/10 and/or .NET.

As to America/European casual games market, I don't know much, but the quantity of .NET powered game is pertty few yet.
