I just found Half-Life 2: Missing Information. It recreates all the scenes from the original HL2 previews. Starting off on a huge arctic icebreaker ship, HL2:MI feels more like HL2 than HL2 does, if you know what I mean. It's really good.

Ah, it is a mod - I thought it was something official.
Is 1.4 the most recent version? I'm downloading 1.4 now. Sounds promising.

I've got v1.4. I think it was made with the leaked beta. It's unreleased Valve content, not a bunch crappy third-party maps. I'm still in the ship, but it feels like it just fills a need for further HL2 content and a better explanation. You also get a fire extinguisher and an ice axe. :) It's soooooo much better than that crappy train introduction they went with.

Apparently the Borealis will make its appearance in Episode 2 or Episode 3... which will be about 4 years from now at this rate.

Speaking of awesome mods, there was another media release for Black Mesa (HL1 remade with the Source engine). Lots of nice in-game screenshots and a video of one of those 3-legged turkey-looking things.
Still ages until release, though, so only look at that if you want to spend the next year all depressed, just waiting for the mod to come out only to finish it in 2 hours and be depressed again.

I installed it where it wanted to be installed but I can find no way of running up - doesn't appear in Steam and doesn't have an exe.
More worrying, I'm not sure how to uninstall this - other than deleting it. It shows up in Windows 'Add or Remove Programs' list. However, it cannot be uninstalled via that list.
I hope I don't have cause to hunt down and stab the authors.
