help with short film project?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/help with short film project?

im having trouble with lip sink in my new short based on the discworld books. im using cinema 4d r10 does any one know of a plugin or good tutorial on the subject? plus if anyone has a cinema 4d compatible shader for skin that would be great!

((EDIT)) new picture bellow!

Well, I think Dark Basic Pro has a lip-synching add-on - never looked at it, but it may just contain code you can port across to Blitz.

EDIT:
Here it is http://darkbasicpro.thegamecreators.com/?f=dark_voices

I've not read this page prior to posting it.

If you don't mind spending some money, here' the best lipsync tool for the price: Magpie pro. http://www.thirdwishsoftware.com/index.html
It will export to several packages including cinema 4d. It's $250. But that's less than 1/3 of what Cinema 4D costs.

Poser 7 has built-in lip-syncing too... I have v6 and bought v7 upgrade. Official release date is 20.12. but pre-orders (like mine) will be mailed starting next monday.

Add incredible realism to your animations with new lip syncing functionality in Poser 7! Talking is one of the most challenging tasks in character animation, and using the new Talk Designer in Poser 7, even beginning animators can easily make figures talk with facial movements that match real human behavior! With Talk Designer, you have the power to control the type and level of emotion, enunciation, and head and eye movement including the figure’s blink rate. Import a sound file and Poser 7 will automatically animate your figure’s lip, eye and head movements to match!

Whether you are a seasoned professional or are just learning how to animate, now you can create movies or flash animations with characters that speak to add a whole new dimension of realism to your art. Talk Designer will work with many e frontier figures, including Sydney and Simon, the new Poser 7 figures, as well as James, Jessi, and the Generation 2 Koji and Kelvin figures. Third party content creators will be able to provide configuration files that make any viseme-equipped* figures Talk Designer compatible!

* Visemes are the visual representations of phonemes.

thanks Dustin im downloading the trial version. not many programs export to cinema 4d format so thats cool. you can do it in cinema 4d but ive never sean a tutorial id think you could save poses for all the mouth shapes and you the pose mixer. it would take a long time.

Mustang : ive not worked out how to use poser with c4d but if magpie doest work out ill give it a try.

I've no idea about lip syncing solutions but that's a might fine Rincewind! Don't forget the writing on the hat though.

No matter what approach you take, if you want detailed lipsync then you'll have to make the poses.

Here's a quick so-so primer:

Here's a couple of books to consider:

thanks for the book references Dustin! they are for maya/3ds though :O/

i do wish there were more books on cinema 4d, but i guess the main programs always get the good books.

ive been reading up on the inbuilt pose mixer in C4d and i think with a bit of reference maybe from those book above, it shouldnt be very hard.

Justluke: thanks but im not happy with him yet. ive now done the ears, neck and the stars/writing on the hat. i need to tweak the hair to be more patchy and make him look a bit younger. ill even out his expression abit to make animation easyer too.

Ive just read colour of magic again and it says that he hasnt got a hat, but i cant remember the first time it is reference in the books? he doesnt look right without it.

thanks for the help

Pete

made a start on a new rincewind much younger looking this time.

Pete,

I have Poser 5,6,7 and Mimic Pro, which is pretty good at lip sinking, check out this link to my automedic character at the National Space Centre in Leceister, UK.

http://www.smartscreenuk.com/NationalSpaceCentre_Tranquillity_Base.html

Mimic is fast and pretty acceptable, if you want better you can adjust each pose inside Poser again to tweak it to how you want it.

"Dragonsphere" and "Grimble" are both being produced this way. (My two little animated films).

IPete2.

ok i will take a look. at the moment ive been patch morphing in cinema 4d and creating poses of the mouth shapes for each sound and then blending between the shapes.
