YAY! Now I can sleep, Goodnite.
Just clocked Gears of War
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Just clocked Gears of War Thanks for making me feel like a tard, just got Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney for my DS, and I haven't been able to put the stupid thing down for the last 7 hours.
God I hate good games sometimes....

Gears of War is awesome. I finished it in the easiest mode in Single Player, and finsihed it again in Cooperative in the hardest mode (don't know what their names in english are, as I am playing the spanish version).
Casual
Hardcore
Insane
If you finished it on Insane, you have my respect. :)

How hard is the last boss meant to be, we killed him in about 25secs or less on hardest, is that about right?
If you know how to kill him, sure, it's going to be fast.
The last boss was pretty easy, same with the spider. All I needed was a full clip of Lancer ammo, and a few nades' n torque bow shots. The ending was pretty stink though, didn't really explain much about how the Locust got underground, why they declared war, and why they weren't going to stop. I think it leaves room for a sequel though.
Yeah, the boss fights weren't great, admittedly. Ahh well...
Great graphics, but I'm not sure if I like the "no-jumping" policy.....
You try jumping with an insanely heavy armor. :)
There is no PC version of this.
I want to play this - I heard it uses the Unreal 3 Engine - is it any good?

Actually, I just watched a video of it - looks like a load of rubbish. Graphics look good, but it looks a bit too 'on rails' for my liking - watching the video was like watching a 3D platform game.

No jumping is what allows Gears to give you some sense of immersion without 250 lb soldiers in full armor jumping around like rabbits.
I didn't know how to kill him, was our first play through, my mate made a run for it, boss turned his back and i got him in the back of the head/neck, bye bye, what a sham!!
Puki,
Gears of War is an average TPS, certainly not deserving of all the gushing praise and exceptionally high review scores, in my opinion. The visuals are nice, the setting is somewhat bland. Gameplay is nothing great. Again, I'll reiterate this is my opinion - many people disagree with me.
I'm playing Call of Duty 3 (XBOX 360 version) at the moment. Now, this game has outstanding visuals. Gameplay is similiar to the previous Call of Duty incarnations. WW2 setting, chaos. I like it.

I think that Gears of War was pretty good, Visuals definately spiffy, I didnt like the snap-to-stuff kind of context system, authough I got used to it after a while. Also while sprinting the camera angle makes it a little hard to see, but, all in all its worth every cent.
Its definately more of a duck behind concrete, lean out, take a few shots, get hit a few times, duck back in, heal, and repeat. After a while you can become pretty good at taking out enemies, I loved the sniper rifle. Really good for the Locust Turrets.
Dont expect the ending to leave all ends tied. It leaves alot to be explained. Things such as:
Why did the Locust attack?
Why did Dr. Fenix have the Locust tunnels all mapped out?
Where did the Locust come from?
Why would they not stop fighting?
Were the Locust created as a means for a 'one enemy' to unify opposing sides in the Pendulum wars?
I'm yet to hire out Call of Duty 3. I played a little of 2 but it seemed rather lacking in detail. Gameplay was pretty good though. Gave you that vulnerable feeling.

heh the using cover and cover fire is pretty accurate to what you would expect anywhere but in the movies. Don't know how well this works in a game though.
I thought that the COD games looked quite good but were kind of like rail shooters in their levels linear qualities. Seems to be a problem with most FPS games though.
Oddly enough my favourites are still Farcry, riddick and FEAR which gave you some sense of freedom and had AI a little better than the standard fare.

I hated FEAR. I only played the demo on the 360 but if thats anything what the final game is like then... shudder.
Gears of War is an average FPS
It isn't an FPS.

Yep, I finished it in Casual in single player, and then done it again in Insane in cooperative with my brother. And except for a few parts, it is not that hard. Maybe someday I'll try to finish Insane mode in single player. Probably much harder than in coop.
I have to say that it's the best game I have played lately (though I haven't got a Wii + Zelda yet), and the visuals are stunning.

TPS?

Here here!
(well ok, haven't played FEAR yet >.>, too cheap and waiting on some "deluxe" package that includes the original/expansion for PC)
Also while sprinting the camera angle makes it a little hard to see
Does it induce motion-sickness any in the final product? I recalled feeling a little nauseous watchinging the E3 trailer back a bit because of all the camera shaking involved.
