Can't Sleep
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Can't Sleep
Maybe it's the fact I've been coding ALL day and evening for like 2 weeks or maybe it's the fact I drunk some coke earlier with a pizza and chips and I don't normally have caffeine, but it's nearly 5am and I'm wired. Tried sleeping like 2 hours ago but just failed so got up again to do more work (except I've found myself here). I'm just really excited about getting this game done + wondering how to cram in another 50 hours coding in 3 days...
Anyone else get like this?
God I'm soooo going to relax next week when this game is out, maybe I'll only work 8 hour days or less then, wow! Actually I wanna play my big stack of unplayed games and maybe buy a Wii.
Clown's going to get me!
Tell me about the game :D
Anyway, having a similar problem, only not quite.
I've stayed up later and later many nights in a row, and right now my daily rythm is shot. Go to bed 8am, wake 3-4pm.
I've been reading up on 6502 programming, and the XGS Hydra console, so its not all a waste :D
Sorry to hear you can't sleep Grey. I just woke up. I'm fresh for the day once I get a cup of Tea in me.
get it all the time, i pre - ordered a wii last night.. woo!
Insomnia is something I have delt with for a long time... I found the best way to deal with it was getting up and doing something repeatative and gainful... Coding, riding a stationary bike.. Turn the negative into a positive.
A few hours of it, and you'll zone out... try to be neear a bed.. faster you get to it, the better.
Still up.
Go to bed 8am, wake 3-4pm.
sounds like that's what'll happen today, if Helen and the kids let me. That's the problem with coding all night, it's fine when you are single ...
Anyway got lots done, improved the player interface (just hope it doesn't look crazy later on haha).
Now I'm really tired, I can feel it...
Have some merry weed, that'll get you to sleep.
All work and no play makes Jake a dull boy.
Jason.
Indiepath: normally the opposite for me actually.
Quicksilva: All work and only playing on the game actually makes the game very good and not dull at least. I don't mind being dull until I finish this, then I can let loose (or kick back and relax).
Right now to make some ice cubes...
I sometimes come into the mood of experimenting, coding, making music and then i get lost in time. Great when this happens and you don't have to pay for it the next day. The older i get the less it sadly happens. The last time i experienced this was when the new version of unity was released. I was excited and played around with it. Ufortunately i had to pay for this the next day but in this case it was worth the fun! :O)
I'm gonna try for 4 hours sleep (one sleep cycle) and see how I feel later, then maybe I'll sleep normally tonite.
Grab a cup of Horlicks Grey, that knocks me right out!
Dabz
[EDIT] Good god, I'm getting old, recommending horlicks to people! :D
haha. Don't think I've got any. Maybe I'll have a bowl of cereal in a minute then a hot chocolate. I'm still trying to get the icecube just right in photoshop.
5-htp is my go to sleeping pill when I absolutely need to sleep. Ahh, sweet serotonin.
Actually, I should be sleeping right now myself. I normally sleep from about 9am to 6 or 7 pm (I've got a sweet third shift job where I can do whatever I want (i.e. code, read, watch TV if i wanted to <--never!) for about 6 hours per shift.
Strangely, having so much time is almost counter-productive. It's hard to keep motivated when there's always more time tomorrow. Bah.
Buy a big mallet and get your missus to knock you out with it. :P
I find staying awake more of a problem, personally :/ - never really had a problem with sleeping. Haven't taken a sleeping pill in my life.
Did you know 'seven nation army' is actually 'salvation army' ?
So .. sleeping from 8 till 3 ? That is exactly what i'm doing at the moment. It's quite unpractical for everything else besides programming. For programming, it is nice to work at nights. 8 to 3, that is 8 hours of sleep = ok. I think vitamins are important for sleeping. Now let's hope there is some vitamins in a pizza salami. :)
Ah, that may explain my ease of sleeping - is there vitamins in beer? :P
is there vitamins in beer? :P
Yep, something the Germans call Peckerfloppenjuice.
I'm a raging insomniac. After about 2 days without sleep you start to see things, and blitz3D goes all fuzzy.
My doc says it's an inability to switch off. I call it motivation.

Been there. Tho for me, it took about 3 days to start seeing things... well.. at 2 Days you start seeing random lines.. almost like rain.
But the real fun is from 4-5 days.. the most I've made it. That is when you lose track of time and everything melts together.
I'm still not sure exactly how long I was up beyond that.. but people tell me I didn't miss school or stuff... so I have to assume no more than 4-5

I used to hear voices. :s
It'd be funny if it wasn't true. :/
@Gabriel
God who drinks this? Normally we have a good beer to drink here in germany like Augustiner Edelstoff or in Bavaria beer from your local monastery.
Should be no problem getting sleepy with a few of these... :O)
Strangest thing to happen to me. I had been up about 3 days and was trying to go to sleep.. Then. I feel something on my face. I open my eyes, and my hamster was on my face (Happened once before a few years ago and I put her back in the cage) So I grab the thing. lift it off my face and toss it in a bin next to my bed. When I look down. Nothing is in the bin. Then I look around the room, look back and the bin is gone...
Then it hit me. My hamster has been dead for well over a year. And I guess the bin wasn't real either.
Its called a waking dream or something my doc said.. happens when you are up for a long time. Your body just dreams while you are awake...
But it was sooo strange, cause I could feel the fur and the hamster moving in my hand, and I heard it hit the bin, I even was worried I had hurt it.
Yep, something the Germans call Peckerfloppenjuice.
lol. Luckily, it's never affected me in that way. -_-
haha some pretty funny posts.
Yah I've never taken a sleeping pill. Booze is no good to send me to sleep as I need to be with it for coding each day not hungover, also working so hard will lower my immune system and booze lowers it more making me susceptible to colds etc I just got over a bitching one last week and don't want any more soon!
My doc says it's an inability to switch off. I call it motivation.
Yeah I'm just way motivated right now due to insane pressure to get this ready before the portals say "nah it's too late" yet maintaining that level of polish that is required for sales!
DampeS8N: Funny, I get weird dreams about one a year about my dead gerbil (18 years ago) and my ex, girlfriends dead hamster (9 year ago). Weird, maybe they symbolise something... Some people I know do the whole sleep deprivation thing for spiritual purposes. I actually felt I could have stayed up for a lot longer, but when I went to bed I was out pretty quick for 4 hours, then got up and here I am again. I stayed up for a long time when my first son was born (all through the night etc) but was more tired due to the emotional strain I guess.
Pah, you call that weird dreams? I had one about snooker flavoured crisps, the other night. :/
I admire your dedication to your projects, Grey. Something I sorely lack. :(
haha I can think of worst flavour crisps but that's pretty abstract.
Well I'm either dedicated or mad...now to have a bath to relax (try not to fall asleep) then got to code the map screen!

Me too - although I think that's down to concentrating on too many other hobbies - one I'm hoping will turn into a profession (it's not coding).
Good luck with the latest game - I wonder will it might be better than the last?
I wonder will it might be better than the last?
I hope so in quite a few ways.
I have lots of other hobbies too like Aikido, family, music, reading, games etc but when finishing this project I've had to put all that on hold (and some of them don't like it ;-))
Its coming up to 1am now. I went to bed about 10pm last night, and that lasted all of about 90 minutes - couldn't sleep.
Been doing my website all day - in fact for most of the last few days. Not only that but I'm having to learn the ins and outs of CSS and PHP, neither of which I've used before.
Having a little trouble switching off now. :/
I can help people sleep:
Repeat the following until you are sleepy-poopy.
One man went to mow, went to mow a meadow - one man and his little sausage went to mow a meadow.
Great - not keep repeating the above paragraph? You will go to sleep - yes you will.
if you want to get to sleep repeat the following:
drop to the floor and give me 50 you lazy swine!
then do as you suggested and do 50 pressups.
if you are not tired after this then repeat.
4am...map has gone bad, so I'm fiddling with ice cubes and shadows.
