EULA using BMAX to make a compiler

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/EULA using BMAX to make a compiler

I have just read the now locked thread about EULA

REMOVED. I don't want to be associated with a thread where the OP ignores replies and goes off on one. Serves me right for being in a helpful mood today.

I can't speak for BRL, but I don't see why you making a compiler using their compiler would be a problem. Its a totally separate piece of work.

The issue they had was someone essentially ripping/wrapping the b3d library, and selling it.

No thats not what I said at all.

I AM NOT WRAPPING

sorry bud didnt mean to highlight my text at you like that

Gav you really will be fine. What you're doing is not what BRL is trying to stop. If you wrote a compiler in Blitzmax that spat out X86 and had a 2D sprite system you would still be fine, so long as the 2D sprite system didnt use max2D and you wrote the compiler yourself (i.e. not some reverse engineering of Max compiler).

Long live the oldskool.

All graphics are draw into ram by the compiler

You should do it and then sell it. Use any profits to get a new keyboard without a dodgy capslock key and use anything left over to hire a Private Investigator to find the 'edit post' key for you :)

lol@tonyg

I can't help but agree with Gabriel on this one..

Damn it, i hate it when people delete something that has caused a series of replies. now the whole thread makes no sense.

.

It's not even competitive/similar with BlitzMax, send a letter to BRL and it should be fine.

Damn it, i hate it when people delete something that has caused a series of replies.

Sorry, I didn't mean to give that impression. I didn't delete anything which caused a series of replies. I essentially said much the same thing as Orca with a little more explanation of how and why the other situation was different.

now the whole thread makes no sense.

It never did make any sense. He completely ignored the reassurances and went off on one. That's why I removed my contribution.

As people here have said, this isn't a problem at all. It doesn't involve re-distribution of BRL's copyrighted files (or hacked/wrapped versions thereof), and it doesn't involve selling a competing product on our forums. This is, of course, a perfectly respectable project!

As everyone's said - no problem.
