Sell the PS3 now or during Christmas?

By stroke of luck, Best Buys had an apparent surprise shipment of PS3 in when me and a coworker happened to stopped by during lunch a couple hours ago. Needless to say, the 60 gig sold out within the first 3 minutes, I was a bit hesitant, but decided to go ahead and get one myself (only the 20 gig models was left).

But the thing is, I never really wanted a PS3 (i was looking to get one of those Weeeees). Anyone thinks its a good idea to sell it now on ebay or wait till christmas for a better sell? Or just keep it...?

No, gamers that are willing to spend upwards of $3000 on a $600 system are the scourge of gamers.

That must be why drug dealers are viewed by society as victims, and get relatively light sentences while drug users ( those swines! ) get long periods in jail for their crimes. Oh wait.. ;)

Sell it now. Those things are still fetching top dollar on eBay for some reason even though it's a flaming piece of trash and there aren't any good games on it. The Wii is the most fun you can have with a game console.

If I came across one I'd definitely sell it on eBay to make atleast double your money. Put that money aside and then buy a PS3 later on when the price is down and there are more games you actually want to play :)

There are those who want to have the system to play it (what it's intended for)

But then there are people who are only driven by money and stepping on others to get what they want...

Its the latter that drive the demand (and in that the price) way up for the ps3. Its those who just stood in line to turn around and sell it on ebay and insult those who stood in line for the same time (or longer) just to not get one to play it as they wanted it for...

Nothing against the "scourge of gamers", but they really fit the 'Sony vision'.

I dont want a PS3, but I know people that do. The ones I know just want to play it, not sell it. I am happy in a way that the Wii caters to a higher character than the Grand Theft Auto market type of player/blood sucker the ps3 usually caters too.

I think people are confusing cause and effect here.

Anyhow, I don't know why anyone really complains. Having to (possibly) wait a couple of months to get a PS3 at retail price is but one tiny negative of a free market. Hell, it's possible that outside of a free market Sony might sell the PS3 for such ridiculous prices themselves.

Besides, I'd really have to question the intelligence of anyone who'd hold onto a buggy system with a lackluster library of games when they could make 3-4x their investment by pawning it on eBay(well, the orignal buyers anyhow...the prices have fallen considerably since then).

By the time it has some must play games you'll be able to pick one up at any store, any time. It'll probably be cheaper by then, too.

You bought it but you didn't want it? Go sit inside your bedroom and think about that for a minute will ya?

If you don't want it, sell it to some idiot that will pay way over the odds for something not very good. I can't see why anyone would feel guilty about it.

Whether a person wanted to play the PS3 or sell it, they still remembered to pre-order it or waited all night outside a shop to get it - they made the initial investment in time and money so what's wrong with getting a decent return?

The drug-dealer comparison is probably the silliest thing I've heard, sensible or not. People buying houses to sell-on would be a better comparison.

Sell it and get loads of cash, then buy something you really want.

Personally if it works well i would keep it. If you have a strange feeling about it (too much of a prototype) then i would sell it and wait for a more bugfixed version.
But if you don't want it at all -> sell now as the hype is now.

Yah, lets think about it. All of a sudden a world wide limited system that people have risk their lives for suddenly was available for sale right in front of me and I was gonna turn it down? From the moment I heard of it, I never cared for the ps3 (didn't really cared for the 360 either). But this particular phenomenon with the reselling of the PS3 is the only thing that really made me buy it - yeah I'm one of those who only see the $$$ in this. I see it as an immediate investment.

At first I even considered keeping it, but after a couple of days of playing some games, i really was not too impress - the same impression I got from the 360. Even though its fancy and all, I dont believe its worth the price I paid, but apparently eBay buyers do. So now its a matter of when I should sell it. From the eBay trends now, I'll still make a profit, but it the final values appears to go lower each day....I recall last year during mid-December, the prices for 360s sky rocketted for the Christmas rush before it slwoly plummetted down until March - but then again, they really had no competition at the time.



Exactly my intentions. I was hoping to use the profit made and buy a Wii - which is what I always wanted in the first place.

Good on you - let us know how mych you sell it for in the end, it will be interesting to see just how much people will pay for that last-minute Christmas panic-buy.

Sell it and then treat yourself to something nice with the cash ie a car :)

PS3 is over-rated trash, and no I'm not just saying that because I own a 360! What do you mean I'm biased?

I love how everyone's dissin the PS3. How long has it been out for? You can't tell till it's been properly released for a bit.

I'd sell it on E-Bay too if i had it. If someone's stupid enough to buy it, then your quid's in ;)

I can't hate the PS3, personally. At least Sony is trying to innovate with the Cell chip. Unfortunately, I don't really see it happening though, what with the market the way it is.

Publishers probably won't let the developers spend the time and money needed to completely rewrite large chunks of their game to fully utilize the PS3, especially if that would give the game noticeable improvements over it's Xbox port (unless the 360 gains no more traction in the market place and the PS3 really does take off).

Sure, there'll be some PS3 exclusives that really showcase the system, but I have a feeling they'll be far and few between.

Its obvious that Sony are tugging on loose strings for all they're worth with the PS3. Theres just not enough in the core system to compare it with the 360. SD card readers, linux, bluetooth controllers, etc. Its all great stuff, but its just making up for the systems obvious downfalls.

Actually, I'm starting to like the PS3. I've been playing the "Resistance" game, and while its really nothing new to showoff (its reminds me of a cross between Call of Duty 3 and Half Life 2), it was a solid game. I was more hooked on it than with Gears of War.

Anyways, prices on ebay are starting to climb again. Some guy was lucky enough to sell his 20 gig version for $1220 yesterday on eBay but most are selling at around $650-$750.......I'm gonna give it another week before I drop mine in. And still no luck with the Wii anywhere :(

well, you may have been better off selling right away. I guess that Chrimbo things might pick up but interest in PS3 dropped dramaticly the week after launch.

Usualy developers go where the money is, so 360 has the advantage. The bigger the market the more publishers support the system. Thats why the original Xbox didn't fare all that well. Publishers just weren't interested in a system when there were 8x the number of PS2 users out there already.

At least this time the hardware is more evenly matched which means the games will be better balanced this time.

I don't think people are going to want a used system. Not for a new price, anyhow.

Well heres the update....I actually considered keeping it for a while, but ended up selling it to my mom's friend's who wanted one for their 11 year old son who (apparently) gets outstanding grades in school. It was suppose to be his christmas present - among his others boxed up under their fancy tree. Interestingly enough, he already had an xbox 360 with several games in the corner of his room (they're a bit on the wealthy side). She offered $700 at the last minute since theres none available anywhere locally, and considering shes my mom's friend....i accepted and was even kind enough to plug it in for them :p. They said it was for the son, but I think it was the dad who really wanted it....

So anyways, I got enough cash to get me and my girl friend a fancy dinner, and i can buy a couple of Game Cube games... :D

But i wished I tested out Bmax on linux on the PS3 first before i sold it.....but maybe i can talk them into letting try it......
