I'm sill wondering how long it will take before the novelty of jumping around and swinging your arms at your TV will fade.

Having been an Eyetoy owner, I predict about a month :)

Eye-Toy only had like.....4-5'ish games that actually *used* the thing as the main controller and not an add-on gimmick.
(not to mention the annoying room/lighting requirements)



That's what I thought when I first saw it, said to myself "Nintendo owes Mr.Colbert a good sum of money for the extra 50k people he just put in line for one......".

Nintendo is getting waaaay too much free advertising.
(and I barely see their onwn one of two Wii commercials on the air {in North America} as is)

And the Wii commercials suck too. Two japanese guys come into a house and play it with a family. Sony's PSP commercials were 10x better. But Nintendo's commercials haven't been particularly strong since the 80's. (Zelda? Zelda?! ZEL-DA!)

I thought the Wii commercials are better than the PS3. The PS3 commercials show absolutely nothing about it except for what the expensive box looks like and some other things suggesting it possessing babies.

Regarding the strap thing, looks like Penny-Arcade decided to take a stab at it.

Yeah, I'd forgotten the PS3 comemrcials. Compared to that the Nintendo ones are better.

Well, the X360 commercials seem to be rather decent, tho. Can't complain about those ones, either.

Exaggeration hurts your credibility. And it's been said again
and again, you don't need to play it that way anyway.

The eyetoy delivers much less information to the
console and at a much lower fidelity. The Wiimote is very
accurate and flexible. These things make all the
difference.

The bad thing the Wii has going for it is that most gamers are lazy, not everyone wants to spend all day jumping out at the TV. If I use my Eyetoy I'm particularly tired after 10 mins of play, it's tiring work on some games. Whereby usually for the rest of the day I don't feel like playing it anymore. Unless you have loads of friends over and you can take a rest, but how often do you have ALL your mates over?
Not too often, there were also various sequels and extra games to go with the Eyetoy. It sold very well for a number of years, but had the Eyetoy been the primary way to interact with the PS2 console. People would've got sick of that doing that fairly quickly, waving their arms about.

I think the novelty will soon wear off and then eventually people will realise the system specs won't be enough to carry it on for long term. How often do people rave on about how innovate the DS is with it's unique pen drawing games? Not too often these days, I think the Wii will do well, but not for as long as people are predicting. If it's anything like the N64 and Gamecube people will get sick of waiting for new games to be made for it.

There's nothing stopping anyone developing a similiar controller for PS3 and X-Box, the PS2 has many crazy controllers developed for the system as it is, especially in Japan. If that should happen, the Wii will soon die a Gamecube style death.

And yet the DS continues to sell like hotcakes, and pen based games continue to be developed for it.

Just because people have stopped reporting on how amazing and innovative something is doesn't mean they've stopped liking it.

Which is why light gun games and dance dance revolution are so unpopular, right? :-)

Also the Wii is intended to transcend the hardcore gamer audience and reach the non-lazy casual and non-gamer markets. Which it seems to be doing quite well.

And it's not as simple as releasing a similar controller for other consoles. The 360 has a huge userbase. They'd have to have some kind of killer app everyone wanted and package the controller with it to get the kind of userbase they'd need to entice developers to make games for the controller. The Wii packs it in with every system. And Sony is far too expensive to attract casual gamers.

Consider this. The Wii after just over a week since their release already has 10% of the console market. IN A WEEK.

By this christmas they plan to have shipped 4 million units. If they do that they will then have taken 50% of the console market, in just a little over a MONTH.

You think the Wii will go away? I think the Wii is potentially on track to win this console war. The 360 won't go down without a fight though.

Oh and my nintendo stock is back up to 28.80 and I have made $411 so far since I bought it two weeks before the launch. Wii paid for itself and then some. Let's see the 360 or PS3 do that. :-)

If I had had any money to invest I would have gotten some Nintendo stock. I knew it was going to soar.Hearing you rub it in all the time hurts. ;)

I only bought it at 26.30 I think it was. I'm fairly sure it will continue to go up. You could still buy. The stock doesn't have a history of dropping like a rock or anything so if it does go down it'll probably go down slowly enough to minimize your losses if it does drop. But I don't think it will. It has done pretty much nothing but go up for the past year. I so wish I'd been able to buy the stock back in January though!

And I'm not trying to rub it in, I'm trying to enocurage others to invest. :-)
