PS3 as a Linux computer, how does BlitzMax do?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/PS3 as a Linux computer, how does BlitzMax do?

I just picked up on a video on how to use Linux on the PS3, never thought I'd see Sony do something so special. Seems like we could see BlitzMax being run on this. How do you feel about this? Video link below:

Seems like you could run BlitzMax games on this with no trouble, but with 256 MB RAM only, I doubt you could do anything real high-end with a PS3.

Not gonna happen.

why not?

Its not x86 linux?

Well, I dunno, if you installed Mac OS X, you could probably have the Mac version of BlitzMax running.

MacOs on a vanilla framebuffer, now that would be painful.

Unfortunately PS3 linux is dead in the water compared to PS2 linux, without accelerated graphics (which seems intentional not just an nvidia driver missing in action) the small amount of effort to port blitzmax to ?Linux?PPC seems a little worthless. Well not until the realtime raytracing lib for SPE comes out anyway.

Yeah, even the Net Yaroze was better than what this guy was demonstrating. I could probably care less about even touching the PS3 at all. If I wanted something from the PlayStation line, it'd either be the PSP, or a PS2, but not a PS3.

This is not at all unlikely. The biggest problem is that the PS3 uses a Cell chip with 7-8 CPU cores. BlitzMAX is not threadsafe, so performance would absolutely suck.

Yeah, I guess there would be a better chance of BlitzMax working in a modded Xbox or a PS2 than a PS3.

modded xbox 'maybe' as it had an intel processor.

Why is it as soon as someone mentions linux on a new platform, there is a thread about how easy it would be to port bmax over! It's a combination of the CPU, and OS which will always determine how easy it is to port a language to a given platform.

I am looking for Linux on Wii... I want to nunchuck the Penguin!!! {{ totally inane comment provided by me!}}
