Anyone having problems with SmartFTP?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Anyone having problems with SmartFTP?

If you are, then you're probably using version 2.0 build #999 which has a nasty bug in it - it basically stops connecting to FTP sites and crashes in an epic fashion.

build #1000 is available from www.smartftp.com which addresses this issue. I'd hate to think that any of you were messing about changing logins and passwords unnecessarily when its actually SmartFTP's fault. :/

thanks for the heads up, im using #997 so i will skip to #1000

Yeah I had the same problems then I saw a bugfix on the website.
Fixed bug where SmartFTP would stop working after the 10. November 2006

LOL, funny you should bring this up. Last night I was trying to log in to a clients FTP and it kept locking out on me. I thought it was a problem with his host as my site worked fine.

Updating now, thanks :)

SmartFTP has always been flakey. Every time I try it (about once every 6 months when I misplace my FlashFXP key and I'm in a hurry) it screws up. It usually connects fine but when I ask it to upload 50+ files from different folders it usually manages to upload about 25 of them. No error messages, it just doesn't work.

Then I download WsFTP before hunting out a crack for FlashFXP before hunting out my key.

I actually lost my key for 6 months and I found a backup today! OK, it's a printed version of my registration email so I've got some tricky typing to do, but at least I found it :)

Try filezilla, it's great... and super too.

My favorite is WS_FTP Pro... Another very nice one is WebDrive -- it installs a shell extension that allows you to map a windows driveletter to any FTP site, and transparently does the FTP stuff...

Through WebDrive you can save a file directly to your site from within any program, move files around through the windows explorer or even from the command line.

I second FileZilla... no problems at all

Yeah I'm gonna try Filezilla too.

Another problem I've had with SmartFTP is all of a sudden the program stops running beyond the splash/nag screen, even though its supposedly free for personal use.

I used to like smartFTP but started having trouble and went over to WSFtp. WSFtp let you see image thumbnails etc which was useful for me since I could see what pictures were hogging up my web space.

Don't know if there is anything better, Never had any probs with WSftp at all since.
