What keeps an image high up in a Google search?
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/What keeps an image high up in a Google search?
I was Image Googling 'Blitz3d'.
http://images.google.co.uk/images?q=blitz3d&ndsp=20&svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla_s&sa=N&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&tab=wiI noticed from the first page to the 3rd page of Google images were my 'Blitz Oblivion' screenshots.
That thread was created 5 months ago. Why are my screenshots so high in the search?
What I am getting at here is, is this happening because people are Googling 'Blitz3D' and then spotting the 'Blitz Oblivion' pictures and clicking on the images to see what it is about, thus keeping those images high up in the rankings?
Basically, why are those images so high in the rankings?
There are a lot of things that make something higher in the ranking. It could be any of them.
I find it interesting though.
BRL must know the number of views to that thread - I wonder if it is particuarly high?
The views wouldn't be as important for the height on the list as things like. How many people linked to it. Or maybe if those were the last things people looked at in the search, i'm not sure if google looks at things like that.
Normally it is the ammount of people who link to it. At least that is what I thought. They kind of keep all the things that matter a secret.
Perhaps it's the bli part in oblivion. Probably looks like a repetition of the keyword blitz
could also be that people searching 'oblivion' will hit on it. seeing as a very popular game with that name exists.
The thing is - I created other threads with pictures in, but they are not there too. There was the 'horse' thread and the thread whereby I was re-building the Oblivion foliage and having problems.
kind of funny, but I searched and opened a few of them for the commercial. I wonder if that had anything to do with it.
naked women :)
Other sites linking to the page with the images or the images themselves will boost your ranking...
Hold on a minute.
I just did the same thing with Yahoo image search - I typed in 'Blitz3D' - something is very wrong here.
For starters, none of my images are there - anywhere - ie 'Blitz3D Oblivion' does not find anything.
The thing is dripping with Blitz3Dfr.com - (the frogs).
On page 8 is my "Angelina Jolie" picture I posted in IRC that someone (my money is on "filax") stole and put up on www.blitz3dfr.com
When you get to page 23 there are loads of Blitzcoder.com ones. How the hell did the Blitzcoder ones survive?
Someone needs to explain this image ranking to me coz, to me, it doesn't add up.
Take a look at "Lycos" - it only finds 83 images for 'Blitz3D'.
What kind of maggot search engine is that?
EDIT:
Ask.com is not much better.
All search engines (companies) have their own databases - that's why you have to use (at least in the past) several of them if you're looking for something spesific, although Google alone pretty much rocks these days. How they rank the search results is well kept secret but obviously you can buy visibility with google ads and such. Other engines find so little stuff because ppl use them so little - no searches, no database additions... they are dying.
Look its quite obvious that both the writers of Oblivion and the Police have been looking at your rip threads. They have probably synced the pages, and downloaded them, Shown them to judges and the like. Probably they have perminant company internal links to it.
And lets be honest probably it comes quite high if you are looking for a pirate version of Oblivion.
(And I only get two of your pics on the first two pages, so maybe its based on your search history as well)
