Been reading up on system tweaks for my music production PC and found a few sites that say too many fonts will slow down Windows. So...
a) is this still a significant problem with a dual core 3Ghz+ machine - I know it shouldn't be logically but lets face it, there isn't much logical about computers any more ;)
b) how many fonts is too many?
The more fonts I add it does seem like the boot gets a bit longer. I have 2000+ on this machine for Artistic reasons and design of Graphics etc.
Initially with the basic fontset the loadup was blazing fast. After installing Corel 12 and all my deco fonts and the programs I use to design custom embroidery etc. Much slower boot.
I don't have a lot in the system tray either. Avast, Zone Alarm, the sound ctrl and the network connection icon. (since we switched to DSL the SBC truck thingee too) all good.
I keep all my fonts on a separate drive and use a font manager to install the ones I need for a particular project. Once the project is completed I use the font manager to uninstall then again.
Back in the day though I suffered from the slooooow booting problem when I first installed my Corel SOftware. All those lovely fonts that looked really usefull but were never actually used :)
Cheers
