Blitz Christmas Meal
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Blitz Christmas Meal
Just thought I'd replace the lost thread! :)
Anyway, I looked at the train tickets, but feel a flight is in order (it's a long way) :)
What's the name of the place again Grey mate?
Dabz
Bridport, in Dorset.
Mmm, this has made me rather peckish. I like food.
That was it... I couldnt get the word 'bridgeport' out of my head and wasnt sure, especially after the forums went tatty bye for a bit!
:)
Dabz
I thought we'd agreed on Jamaica?
OK Meal Details:
- Friday December 15th 2006
- Sundorbon Tandori in South Street, Bridport, Dorset U.K at 8:00 PM.
- Suggest we meet at 7:30 PM first in the Beach and Barnicott bar (also in south street at the traffic lights (opposite the town hall)
- After the meal we can go to the pub and chat more.
- Bridport has the Bull Hotel which is posh and expensive and other lesser hotels
- Bridport also has plenty of cheap B&Bs.
Dabz. Where u live then? Nearest Airport is Exeter (40 miles away). Then you'd have to get a bus, it's about an hour away. Train to Dorchester South station (15 miles away) may be a good option, I could pick you up from there...and there's also a bus from there to Bridport.
So far we have these almost definites:
- Indiepath
- Dabz
- Grey Alien
And these possibilities:
- GFK
- SoggyP
- Cygnus
Cool, who else then? Common get into the Christmas spirit. Puki you coming this time?
I live in Durham, next to Newcastle. It is a hell of a long way, that's why I'm thinking of an internal flight! It shouldnt take too long to fly down, about an hour... The return flight costs over £100(shock horror), then an hour bus ride (you may have to get the bus number for me), working it out, if I set of to newcastle airport at 11.00am, I'll be there at about 2.15pm(ish)
Otherwise, by train:-
I'll have to set off from Durham at around 2am, make 4 connections, and arrive sometime after 11am! :/
Which doesnt look too good, as I'll probably be that knackered I'll end up with an indian meal with my face in it! :)
Dabz
an indian meal with my face in it!
lol, haha. I flew to Newcastle for my last job once, saw a load of famous snooker players on the plane in the baggage reclaim. Anyway, yeah it is a long way. I think we flew to/from Bristol, then it's about 1.5 hours by car, but a train can (probably) be taken to taunton which is about 55 mins fro Bridport (30 miles). Flights are definitely quick but a certain amount of hassle. Driving gives more flexibility but over that distance will probably cost £100 in fuel...would in my car at least (actually more, it has crap MPG).
I don't particularly want to do this, but I could move the meal to somewhere further north like Bristol or Birmingham, but it's more of a pain for me and I am the organiser ;-) I'm just wondering if more people will come. It's cool that some people will take the trouble to travel (I would if someone else arranged it). Thoughts anyone?
hmm, just bumping this for dinner time.
Hello.
To be fair Bristol isn't the arse end of nowhere that Bridport is. It would cut an hour or more off most people's journey's.
Goodbye.

lol, that is a point... I told our lass the cost of getting there and back! She went through the roof! :D
I've just worked out it'll cost me around £300 or a little more for an indian and a few drinks... That may be out my price range for one night, I'll just have to see what the funds are like in the next couple of weeks Grey.
Dabz
yeah, UK seems pretty big when you gotta travel. Shame travelling isn't cheaper. You could fly to Amsterdamn for £10 if you got the correct flight.
It would cut an hour or more off most people's journey's.
1.75 hours probably (takes me that long to get to Bristol)...
If I went to Amsterdam, the last thing I'd be thinking of is an indian meal! ;) lol And it'll probably be cheaper, if you get my drift! :D
Dabz
yeah I gotta friend there. Must visit.
Best of luck with your curry, I'm partial to a bit of curry - however funds all tied up in chrimble prezzies. Might join you next year... seasons wishes.
im in somerset not that far away.
Blitzplotter: OK, sure next year then...
Pete: Cool, so you could make it pretty easily...
Is this still happening? In Bridport? on the 15th?
I'm into it but it doesn't seem like anyone else is?
I won't be going, Grey. I can't justify the cost of a 500 mile round trip and hotel accomodation for the sake of a beer and a curry. :(
I too cannae make it man. We *have* to meet up sometime though!
Wouldn't Birmingham be the best choice. It's pretty much in the middle :)
Airport for those who are flying in , 15 minute train ride from the airport to the city centre. From New Street station, it's a five minute walk to a cheap Wetherspoons hotel (briar rose) with a pub next door, plus loads of places to eat.
Seems much easier travelling for those not in Bridport :)
Fine, basically someone else set up a meal that's central and I'll come to it.
:( I was looking forward to this.
Well I can still do a meal but i'll just be U me, Helen and Penny unless we can persuade SoggyP again :-)
I've been looking and Bridport is too far away I'm afraid, it's just too much for one night!
Birmingham will keep my bank managers face straight (ie the girlfriends face straight)
Still, I'm open for suggestions. If it is birmingham, will you be coming Qube? ;)
Dabz
where in durham do you live dabs My mum lives in nevilles cross.
I am on free wireless boradband typing this BTW. in my hotel in nottingham. pretty cool really

Dabz

I am on free wireless boradband typing this BTW. in my hotel in nottingham. pretty cool really
working at monumental games at the moment
In langley Park Ruz, lol, on the way to Consett, turn left at the BP garage round-about!
Where do you drink in Durham Ruz? When I'm down there it's usually coach and eight, yates's, studio, though sometimes I head up to the big jug, o'neils and down to johnny alans or chase!
Though my prefered night is in sunderland, bloody great night! :)
What games are you working on then Ruz, any chance of sneek peeks! ;)
Dabz
We are are stiil in pre dev right now mate. can't say anything
about the game right now
yeah I head to o'neils sometimes, but get the walkabout , angel sometimes, varsity gets a bit packed and studenty, but its ok for one or two.
I get in that one opposite johhny allens , but haven't been to 'klutz' for years now.
I used to live in sunderland, near backhouse park, where I was an art student for a few years, but i come from bishop auckland originally
Yeah, Varsity is okay for a drink or two during the day with something to scran, but rarely do I go there at weekends!
lol, the klute, I had some belting nights in their when I was just starting to turn out! :)
I once met a student in there from Washington DC, she lived in some flats just up from waterstones. Very nice indeed as well, her boyfriend dumped her that night, and it was her birthday! The ignorant git!
She started cheering up after I pulled her on the dance floor, and take it from me, if you see me dance, your guarrented a laugh! :D
Only met her that night (wink wink), I couldnt remember what flat she lived in or anything... I wonder what she's up to now, bless her!
Okay, rambling now, nostaglia, funny thing!
Are you back in Durham over xmas like Ruz?
Dabz
I'd come to the Birmingham one if it was to happen as I live there ;) I'm in the city centre every day...
However the 15th is our Xmas lunch...
Okay, rambling now, nostaglia, funny thing!
You fancied her, yeah?
I'd come to the Birmingham one if it was to happen as I live there
splutter, if you live there you should host it! I'm not hosting one there as I don't know my way around and what restaurants are good (bet there are some good curry houses though!), but I'd come along if the missus let's me. Maybe she would too :-)
However the 15th is our Xmas lunch...
Then lets make it the 16th ;) lol
And yeah, I did fancy her, she was one of them good'uns you meet, then somehow, get away! :)
But, she'll probably be as equally twisty as the one I have now! :D lol, so never mind!
Dabz
Dabz , not sure man. if I am give me a shout fir a drink
Dabz , not sure man. if I am give me a shout fir a drink
Will do Ruz, even if it's just for a couple! ;)
Dabz
I could host a blitz meetup, but it'd have to be in the new year methinks :) I know of *one* good pub in the city centre (Not the one I normally go to..)
(tu) Cygnus: Sounds cool, sure I could visit...
a meet up in birmingham would be good as its central and i know a few people there
