I sure hate the one I'm working with right now!
"Okay, we can change your PHP flags for you, but you have to give us the last 5 digits of the credit card number that gets the bill." This is to flip off the magic_quotes_gpc flag, which I should be able to change through a .htaccess file.
It turns out that they have blocked my ability (with a paying SILVER account) to use .htaccess files in order to configure my site. Any changes instead have to be run through the tech support people who do it 'for' me.
Irritating!
(Oh, and the PHP include path for my site is a directory which I can't write to).
The strangest thing here is I see no reason why I shouldn't be able to change these myself. Me being able to change .htaccess is hardly a security risk seeing as they already have the dangerous settings flipped on (Eg: Verbose error output). Besides, even if it is risky (although every other decent web host out there does just fine), the only site at risk is mine unless they've made a complete mess of everything.
My free host is better and gives me PHP 5 :b

Anyway, web hosts are annoying.
Nice of them to keep such recent backups, though :) (Although a RAID array would be better).
