Saw Silent Hill movie

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Saw Silent Hill movie

saw it last night. It was OK actually, it made more sense than the crazy games. I've played 2 and 3 on PS2 but never played the original and I can't be bothered with SH4. Yeah so basically I think they captured the atmosphere of the games well. I kept thinking, when will she find a torch, and then OK you need a big pipe know for zombie smacking but she never got one, she got a knife but lost it (doh). But anyway it was cool and now I understand the games a bit more I think (unless the movie plot isn't related to the games gasp!). I think I might read it up on Wiki if there's an entry...

The music really made the best impression on me though.
And I love any move where religious zealots gets whats coming to them :D

I haven't seen it, but want too though.

I heard the music wasn't made by the legendary Akira Yamaoka I'm very gutted, or infact any of the original dev team had any part on the film. So of course I'm really skeptic to how good it is.

Church Burner! ;-) yeah the music was cool, it was like the games in a lot of places.

Well even if none of the team were involved, the people that did it did a good job I saw. I think it's better than Resident Evil (which was OK).

I haven't played any of the games, but it's a really decent film IMO. Very atmospheric... and undoubtedly the best film that ever came out of a computer game. DOOM on the other hand...

I have a copy and I have indeed watched it twice... Some of it is gruesome but not horrifying. I did like the film... ending was so Japanese Style though...

My vote for best film from a video game: TIE: UltraViolet or Resident Evil...

Does it end... (let me guess)

With a blood splattered, main character who narrowly escaped death?

I actually started to like the movie, until the end. I was kind of unhappy with its ending. Doing the games, I kind of expected a better finale to the movie. But thats my opinion on it. And the sound (well at least in game) was unbeliable. I had to put down the game controler just to take a brake from it. I originally played the games in the middle of the night, and in the dark (better effect) Talk about cold chills. Music was the best

The cinematography, fog effect, creatures and general spooky oddness were spot on - the place really felt like Silent Hill. But the bolted on cheesy hollywood plot let the movie down. The last act just seemed so out of place. This might sound ridiculous, but it would have been better if it had made less sense - cutting out all of the interior church scenes would have helped.

Yeah I played the games in the dark as my kids obviously shouldn't watch them. Maybe the movie should have been more incomprehensible haha. The barbwire shredding of religious fanatics was quite funny.

hmm Wiki is interesting but it doesn't attempt to explain the plot of SH2 and 3 which I played and was bambuzled by.

no

i brought this film a couple of weeks back, and having (tried) to play sh1 it doesn't really compare that well. Not as much tension as there was in the game so over all 6/10. Some cool parts tho.

I am a pretty hardcore fan of the Silent Hill games and therefor had high expectations for the movie. I was very pleasantly surprised though. The feeling and atmosphere was spot on and I enjoyed the story. Eventhough it wasn't of the same standard as the games, it was good enough to pass for a decent movie.

Besides that, I have a weakness for Alice Krige.. particularly her voice :p

Silent Hill is one of the most dull, slow and boring films I've seen in a long time. I guess you need to have played the game and be a fan to even remotely enjoy it.

yap if u play the "Games" u understand the movie better but

the movie is so lala and the games are crazy .

no vote from me for this .

The games are simply awesome, especially the first 3. I can remember playing Silent Hill 1 for the first time and emotionally being blown away at how cool it was. Hard to believe it's an 8 year old game now.

Silent hill 1 was great bit of a slow starter but so cool. silent hill 2 was the best one. as for the film it starts very well the music was just revised versions of the game sound track which was spot on, the movie adds to the story a bit and up to about halfway though i thought it was an improvement after she leaves the school it goes down hill. the change over scene in the school where the school changes form light to dark versions looks amazing with tiles flying off and grim crawling across the walls.

I remember playing the demo version of Silent Hill 1. I thought it was just a Resident Evil rip-off at the time. Playing the full game showed me that it's a totally different style of horror game, more physchological rather than the "BOO!" style horror found in the Resident Evil games... I prefered the Resident Evil films (especially the first one) to Silent Hill. Got a bit cheesy towards the end.

The ending is necessary to have a sequel... thats what I hate about the video/film industry now. Everything has to go on and on...

Read an article about how TV doesn't want to do comedy shows anymore. I think it is the nonending plotlines and the fact that the stars get tooo much money. If TV followed the novela format the shows would have an END. That would be good! Same with movies... and books... what the hell don't plan for a trilogy. Make a good solid product that tells a story.

I quite liked the ending, with the characters stuck in different realities.

As far as horror films go there hasnt been anything made even remotely as good as this (outside of Japan anyway) for a rather long time.

However, I love the games so I am biased, even though I was expecting the film to be utter poop.
