Blitz product hitting the BIG time!

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Blitz product hitting the BIG time!

I just got an email from Caligari and also checked this out myself ( http://www.caligari.com/gamespace/career_mmorpg01.asp ):

Note, this is an edited version - I removed some other info - so it may not read as it was intended (in terms of how it flows from paragraph to paragraph)

Make your own MMORPG!
Make the next World of Warcraft with gameSpace1.6 and Realm Crafter for only $199 - save over 40%, with Shipping and Handling at no charge worldwide!

Dear gameSpace Light owner,

Developing an MMORPG doesn't have to be a million-dollar endeavor thanks to the combination of the Realm Crafter MMORPG engine and gameSpace.

For this Thanksgiving, purchase this winning combination of gameSpace and Realm Crafter for only $199 with Shipping and Handling at no charge, giving you a savings of over 40%!

To see just what you can do with this bundle, take a look at Vickie Eagle, who created her very own MMORPG Witch Gate and landed a job at Realm Crafter creators Solstar Games based on her work.

Seize this chance and you'll have the same tools that Vickie used, and you too too could get your big break in game development using them.

Do not delay, order now and start making that MMORPG you have always dreamt of for just $199! Remember, Shipping and Handling is at no charge worldwide too.

RealmCrafter is a Blitz product - in fact, it is Blitz3D.

I am going to have another go at getting them to release the NPC media as unencrypted - they have released the animal packs.

The thing is, with linking this product into Caligari it will increase the chances of someone unencrypting the RealmCrafter media anyway. So they may as well sell it now rather than wait for us to get it for free.

I haven't seen anything above average created with Realmcrafter. DX7 is just too far behind to make any sort of mmorpg that can complete nowadays. I'm sure it could be done somehow with external libraries but I doubt it ever will since there are better engines around the same price as Blitz3D.

At any rate, Realmcrafter is a neat tool for creating a non-commercial rpg.

Indeed. However, it hasn't stopped a giant like Caligari from showing an interest.

Who would have thought this possible when RealmCrafter first came out?

Truespace may be popular but Gamespace isn't. To me it seems like a last-ditch effort to prolong the inevitable.

Realmcrafter is actually coming out with a new version where solstar created a dll to use directx 9 with blitz so realmcrafter will actually be using directx 9 soon.

Oooh.

I wonder what the future holds?

Their advertising skillz need some work though -.-

2 lines with exactly the same content :p

Except World of Warcraft.

Yeah, I've not seen any stuff in WoW that couldn't have been done in DX7... is it programmed with DX7 or DX9?
Might just be the terrain highlighting.

It's what's under the hood that counts.

yeah actually minus the 3-4 shader effects used in wow its all directx 7 stuff.

It is all about style, gameplay, and being able to create what feels like a living world. Not about graphical none-sense.... no one plays MMOs cause they have the best graphics ever.

Ah yes, wow has full screen drunk effects and such.
I like the WoW style.
Right now Im playing Deus Ex 1 - based on the first Unreal Engine - Dx7.

WoW is dominating the RPG market. That has OGL/DX7ish graphics using DX8 if I'm not mistaken.

Its also the best looking RPG overall IMHO.

It was also not made with Realmcrafter. Even if it uses DX7, it's still light years ahead of what anyone can do with Blitz3D.

Well I just bought Realm Crafter after getting the same email as Puki. Going to look into over the cold and wet Scottish winter, to see if I can put it to some use.

Who knows I might create a WoW and EQ buster ....

Mmmm think I might call it Evercraft ar WarQuest :)

Cheers

Garion

Ooh, if I push/encourage sales of this, I wonder if they will hand over the unencrypted media (well to me at least)?

Ooh, "Jim T" - that isn't the complete email - that might be my fault - I slightly edited stuff out of the email - there was more about her that I took out.

Here's a Blitz Product hitting the big time:

Ooh, I just saw that - they must be stealing your idea.

how can I stop them!?

Mmm, I wonder if I could created a 'Wizard of Oz' game with RealmCrafter?

you still can, go to it! Will Dorothy be using a double handed axe or a one-handed sword and shield combo?

Kind of late posting to this thread, but Solstar Games recently came out with RealmCrafter v2.0 which DOES use DX9 (Shaders, etc.). With version 1.10 and earlier, the client is written in Blitz3d and the server is written in BlitzPlus. With version 2.0, it's a combination of Blitz languages, C++ and C#, I believe.

wow, i only missed this one by 10 months :P

Vickie makes a mmorpg , Eurythmia releases Tecno,
while i havent finished anything....whats next Mike Hense finishes the Sub sim?...

I have a license to Realmcrafter, but havent downloaded or looked at it in over a year, can anyone tell us if the dx9 Dll upgrade is working out?

Sam

whats next Mike Hense finishes the Sub sim?

I doubt it.

Stayne: Wrong. Maybe YOU don't have the skills to do anything productive in Blitz3D. It's sad when people use technology as an excuse when it's really their lack of skills. I suggest you crank up the C++ machine and we'll see ya in about 5 years (and still nothing productive).

Chroma: Agree completely. Looking through the list of Blitz games there's a number of very professional looking games that use nothing more than the standard Blitz commands. It's all down to being creative with what you have. Blitz not having things like C++ structures and functions just means you need to come up with innovative ways around your problems. There is absolutely no reason that a MMORPG like WoW or guildwars couldn't be done in Blitz, it all comes down to manpower and creativity of the team writing the game.

Look at this link: http://uk.gear.ign.com/articles/567/567437p5.html

It's an article comparing half life 2 screenshots using directx 7 8 and 9, the dx7 shots actually looks really good and still easily of commercial quality.

Great link andy!
