Fun, social PC games with split screen mode??

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Fun, social PC games with split screen mode??

Hi,

I might have some friends coming over and I was just looking for some good PC games with split screen mode, or anything that we can play with two players on one screen. So far i've found: Worms, Metal Slug, NBA, Pro Evolution Soccer 6, TOCA 3, need for speed, bomberman, NBA 2006/7/whatever, and a few games on the super nintendo emulator.

I know people say PC isn't a social platform, so this may turn into that sort of a discussion, but I'd just like to ask if some of you kind people actually know about some good games (retail or freeware) that can be played on one screen.

I intend to use two joysticks and plug the PC into my TV, which will soon be encircled by empty beer bottles... :)

thanks

How did you get friends? I've never had any.

What about computer Monopoly - I have that - I played with pretend friends with that (ie the other players) - I've not played it for a while though.

mm for the pc that's not easy.
I regularly have a get-together with some friends where we play Mario Party. But that requires a gamecube. Helluva lot o fun though..

If you can arrange for a console to be present that will make your life a lot easier. I really can't think of any PC games that offer the same kind of socialisation.. Not when all players are sitting around the same pc anyways.

Here's a small party game I made quite some time ago. Squelch! It can be played by six players at once on the same machine.

Ive been playing smash tv on the snes with bro recently :)

puki: post a picture of yourself. maybe we can sort out the friends issue.

At my website you find BomberLAN, a Bomberman clone, very closed to the original Amiga version one.

It's called BomberLAN because it can also be played on a LAN, but it's playable also on a single pc between 2 players.

Lots of fun - believe me ! You find the link in my signature.

Sergio.

I suggest you make one if you've got the time. In fact, that sounds like a fun programming competition:

Best Party Game!

While there aren't that many split-screen games, there are *tons* that support LAN play. If you have a second PC (and many people do these days), then it's still a great social thing.

Personally I dislike the split-screen gameplay since you have so little screen realestate left, that it's hard to see what you're doing... The only game I've played repeatedly on split-screen was the original Lemmings game, on the Amiga.

I'd encircle your TV with full beer bottles. It's more fun that way.

Makes me think of which Amiga games I played that had 2 player modes. Anyone? I only remember:

Bomberman
That 2 player thrust-type game (what was that called?)
Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge

???

There was a downward scrolling shooter that a friend and I played for hours, heck if I can remember the title though. It was incredibly good. (reminded me of Xevious but faster paced)

@ AngelDaniel. That thrust-type game was Gravity Force 2. There was a later version called Gravity Power as well.

@ dynaman. Was it Battle Squadron?

Arcades (Gish, VWing, Luola, Minebombers, Doom2D), strategies (Laser Squad (speccy's), Civilization I with hot-seat multiplayer patch, HOMMs, Serf City), fightings,

I bet his friends already left... :)

But there's always the old nano multiplayer version, which can be downloaded here:

Liero Xtreme is a fun game to play in splitscreen

Amiga: World Class Leaderboard, Laser Squad, Worms!

I've been playing smash TV on playstation recently, it's just a port of the arcade version but has higher res graphics than the SNES version (which I also have).

At my website you find BomberLAN, it's a remake of the Amiga Bomberman. You can play between 2 players on the same pc or in a LAN - hence the name.

Have fun,
Sergio.

Serious Sam! Never had more fun with an splitscreen PC game...

Twinkle Star Sprites, and Puzzle Bobble for NEO-GEO!! Those were two awesome split screeners. Just grab the emulator and roms and go nuts!

Risk 2. Especially good on a tablet PC :)

Worms Blast I have personally enjoyed (2/split screen - kinda like Bust-A-Move), others I know have enjoyed Little Fighter 2 (4/same screen - fast paced beat em up).

Amiga was king of multiplayer fun... I recommend grabbing WinUAE and the following (in alphabetical order) : Base Jumpers, Carnage, Deluxe Galaga, Hired Guns (two mice), IK+, Knights, Lemmings (two mice) and Master Blaster. That'll keep you busy. =]

Another vote for Monopoly. Its more fun on the computer.
Kirby's All-star and Rampart are good for SNES emulator.

Not exactly a split-screen game, but I've found "You Don't Know Jack4: The Ride" to be one of the best (and most hilarious) 3-player quiz game out.

Never really bothered with split-screen games here, too much a hassle to get multiple input devices to setup so you don't keep getting hit with cramping your hand on the keyboard in a setup that doesn't interfere with the "more then 2 keys pressed" thing.....hot-seat games are on the other hand a totally different thing.
