2D RPG graphics help!

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/2D RPG graphics help!

Hey, I've always wanted to develop a 2D RPG game. Though I'm a good programmer I'm not a good artist. I've been trying to make a Final Fantasy III or IV style game for the last year and I'm just about to give up. I can make a pretty good looking tile but I don't have the time to spend an hour one tile of grass. If any one knows of any good tutorials on the subject or has any advise please! let me know.

Thanks

Well, the best thing you could do is just to create the gfx as best you can and leave them as placeholders. Once you consider the game complete (coding wise) you could always approach artists in places like www.pixeljoint.com to see if anyone there would be willing to do some graphics for you.

I'd be willing to help you out maybe. People don't think of me as a good pixel artist mainly cause I don't spend a lot of time. However, if I am doing work to help someone out I put in 10 times the effort.

How many tiles would you need? What about character sprites?

How about midi-music for that old-timey feel?

Try World Creator .
1.5 is freeware and should be able to produce your tiles without much problem. WC 2.5 is inexpensive and much more powerful.

and I'm just about to give up.

No don't !

*PRACTICE*

I will second the don't give up in addition to what I said. There are like NO indie RPGs of any value. Just make sure it has a good story, not some write-off... The indie RPGs that do make it out, all seem to lack a good, or sometimes any story.

Wow, thanks every one. Thanks DampeS8N, maybe I'll talk to you later, after I get stuff figured out. Thanks again!

Sho-nuff Power to the RPG!
