Help me understand this?

ps, this is computer animation - plus "Sibly" said I can post what I want anyway.

Whilst finding the legendary vista footage - posted in another thread - I noticed this one:

What is going on?

I've watched it several times - the people posting the comments seem to get what is going one.

How come I can't figure it?

Lots of comments to it being sad - what is this referring too? 'I didn't realise until the camera turned sideways' - REALISE WHAT?

In honesty, I don't really understand what is going on - I'm not sure why he tied the rope to the tree or why he is hammering nails into the roots of it.

Anyone know what is going on?

The Kiwibird cannot fly
So he is nailing trees on the side of the mountain and then jumps down which gives him a final illusion that he actually are flying horizontally (and probably dies in the end).

I think he's "flying".

Since kiwis can't, he's nailed tress up a cliff and jumped off to simulate flying - a once in a lifetime event.

Sniff, yeah. This was on Fark.com a few days ago. People there didn't get it either.

They said stupid things like "Why doesn't he just fly like normal? Why does he have to jump down a cliff?"

He's a Kiwi! The previous scenes showed him using his friggen feet to hammer nails. Think that would be a clue?

Have you got my Graphics Programming Black Book Special Edition? It contains a lot of my earlier work - of course the printed version came with a CD with a lot of stuff on it. The book itself is freeware now (basically, it is out-dated by hardware) - if anyone wants it it is available as PDF.

No I don't have that one. The Zen book was cool in the DOS days but is no longer needed as you say.
