Nintendo Wii released on a Sunday???

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Nintendo Wii released on a Sunday???

I just noticed, November 19, 2006 is coming up when they are ready to launch the Wii. However, it just occurred to me, the Wii was actually going to be released on a Sunday. This sounds far too unusual to have a game console released on a weekend, instead of during the week like most companies do, like Sony or MS. I'm sort of wondering why the big N chose Sunday, what? Go to church, then pick up a Wii, if you're lucky? Hmm, I dunno...

I used to go for a Wii at church every Sunday as a kid, let's face it, there's nothing else exciting going on in a church.
Thankgod as an adult you have the right to choose where you want to go. Are shops even open on a Sunday?

It's nice for people like I who don't want to miss any school/work camping out for a couple hours before your nearest Wii-Mart opens to grab the thing.

Sundays are usually less busy also around my location, which probably means I'll be getting first-dibs at my local WalMart.

They released the DS on a Sunday as well.

Does anyone know if the Wii version of the new Zelda will let you choose between Wii controls and gamecube controls (plug in a gc controller)?

I might get another PS2, or a PSP. Not even remotely interested in the new stuff at the price they're asking.

they have to release stuff on the weekend in Japan to stop people taking days off work. They probly just extended that schedule to the US

I really tried to preorder it but literally EVERY online store is sold out :(

It's being released for both the Wii and GC, so it's probable. But the question is: Why
the hell would you use a gc controller? If all you want is the old control system,
then maybe you'd be happier sticking with the GC?

Just sayin'.

Po:
Yes, you will be able to choose the control scheme you want to use. I don't know if you can use GC controllers to control Wii games. I know you can plug them in, but I don't know if they are limited to being used for GC games. You probably can. But there is a classic-style Wii controller which is just like a GC controller you can use if not.

IKG:
You don't need to preorder the Wii. Nintendo's chairman has said that he does not think the units will sell out the first day. And the numbers of units that Target stores are getting are anywhere from thirty to a hundred units locally, so there should be plenty of Wii to go around if you head to a Target or Walmart on the 19th.

If that doesn't sell out within the first hour I'll eat my hat. (luckily I don't have a hat, no need to offer me any either)

Here's a good hands on with the wii controller. The conclusion was that it was good but not as good as they had hoped.
